Bills' Pears, McGee doubtful vs Texans

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- With both left tackle Cordy Glenn and right guard Kraig Urbik coming back, it appeared as though the Buffalo Bills would have their starting offensive line from the beginning of the season in tact for their upcoming contest in Houston.

However, a hip injury that has lingered throughout the season for right tackle Erik Pears may mean a new starting combination is on the horizon. After Friday's practice, Bills head coach Chan Gailey said the veteran is doubtful for this weekend's contest.

Pears was limited at practice on Wednesday, and did not participate in either Thursday or Friday's practice. He went and saw a specialist on Thursday to determine if additional work needed to be done. They are still waiting to see if that will be necessary.

If he can't play, that means second-year player Chris Hairston will get the start at right tackle.

Similarly, the Bills might also be without a normal contributor on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback Terrence McGee has been limited in practice all week long due to his long-standing knee injury, and is listed as doubtful for the game against Houston.

Normally in for relief of left cornerback Aaron Williams at times, if McGee can't play there is a chance that former first-round pick Leodis McKelvin could see some time at that position. Gailey said after Friday's practice that they've been working McKelvin at that position throughout the week, but will play it by ear on whether or not they actually use him to spell Williams.

The aforementioned Cordy Glenn seems to be a safe bet to return to action this weekend. The Bills officially listed him as questionable for the game against the Texans, but Gailey implied that the rookie left tackle would be ready for the game. Kraig Urbik is probable for the contest.

The only two players that have been declared out for the contests are defensive end Mark Anderson (knee) and guard Chad Rinehart (ankle). Gailey once again told reporters that they are heading in the direction of putting Rinehart on injured reserve to open up a roster spot for cornerback Ron Brooks.

Brooks was designated for return after an eight-week stint on I-R. He was activated shortly after Friday's practice.

Defensive tackle Kyle Williams was listed as questionable by the Bills, while a whopping 15 players are probable. That list includes Urbik, Marcell Dareus, Brad Smith, C.J. Spiller, Donald Jones, Mario Williams, Andy Levitre, Eric Wood, Chris Kelsay, Chris Hairston, Spencer Johnson, T.J. Graham, Chris White, Justin Rogers and Ron Brooks.

The Bills take on the Texans Sunday at Reliant Stadium, which kicks off at 1 pm.
