T-Shirt Maker Sends Message on Locked Out NFL Refs

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) If you've been to a store specializing in Buffalo goods, you've probably seen tributes to Sabres and Bills players on the front of t-shirts. Now, it's created a shirt not to trash the replacement NFL referees, but instead send a message that the locked out referees need to be appreciated.

The idea for the shirt came hours after the controversial finish Monday night between the Seahawks and Packers. "We've seen these kinds of calls way too often, and we're a t-shirt company and we saw that happen and we have something to say, and people were thinking the same way we were thinking," says David Gram, president of Shop716.com. "What happened last night wasn't right," and Gram can relate, being a Buffalo sports fan.

The shirt contains the names of four referees, Gram says chosen for their name recognition. "Ed Hochuli is definitely the most recognizable name among NFL referees," says Gram. "Fans would also be familiar with Walt Coleman, Jeff Triplette and Mike Carey."

Gram emphasizes the shirt is not about bashing the replacement referees. "I think refs in all sports get a bad rap, and I think when they're gone, you don't what you've got til they're gone. You're seeing it right now, with guys who don't have great experience, and football's a tough game to officiate."
