Bills' Gailey on rookie QBs: "You draft them to play 'em now"

Orchard Park, NY (WGR550)  -- As the Buffalo Bills dropped to 3-6 on the season, the 2013 NFL Draft chatter has grown a bit louder.

Yes, of course, there is still a lingering hope that the Bills can rip off six or seven wins over the final seven games to sneak in to the playoffs, but the percentage of that happening is quite slim.

With the most recent Buddy Nix comments on the quarterback position, and wanting to make sure the Bills have a player of the future at that position, it's been a natural speculation for fans and media alike.

Are the Bills in the market for a quarterback?

While the quote from head coach Chan Gailey on Tuesday gives no insight in to that, it's an interesting line of thinking to analyze rookie quarterbacks around the NFL.

Gailey had been asked about Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who has helped the Dolphins to a 4-5 record, perhaps even putting the franchise ahead of scheduled progress.

While he first started about how Tannehill has limited his mistakes through his first nine starts, it was the follow up about rookie quarterbacks that gets you to thinking.

"It's the same old thing. You draft them to play 'em now," the head coach stated. "You don't draft 'em to let them sit. There's a few people that are doing that, but for the most part you're drafting those guys to play."

If the Bills draft a quarterback in 2013, maybe they'll subscribe to this line of thinking. Or then again, maybe Gailey was merely talking about Tannehill and his rookie QB brethren.

Only time will tell.
