Manziel Becomes First Freshman to Win Heisman Trophy

The 78th Heisman trophy was awarded to Texas A&M Quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Manziel grabbed 474 of 928 first-place votes and 2,029 points to take home the trophy; Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o placed second with 321 first-place votes and 1,706 points; Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein received 60 first-place votes and 894 points.  He also is the first freshman to ever win the award.

The redshirt freshman collected 4,600 yards of total offense in 12 games to break the Southeastern Conference record for total yards in a season. The record was previously held by another former Heisman winner, Cam Newton.  However, the current Carolina Panthers QB needed 14 games to rack up 4,327 yards.
