Bills' Urbik knew all along he wanted to stay

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- It's hasn't been the easiest of paths for Buffalo Bills right guard Kraig Urbik since he entered the National Football League.

Having been drafted by the offensive linemen-hungry Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of 2009, Urbik had a promising start to his career. Something happened between being drafted that highly and the end of his rookie season, because Urbik remained inactive for the entire season. He was eventually cut by Pittsburgh to start the 2010 season.

The Bills, as has been written with many other players presently on the roster, threw Urbik a life vest and scooped him up off waivers. From that point forward, Urbik worked his way up from being a backup interior offensive lineman, to spot starter, to the trusted and steady right guard in charge of protecting Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Upon signing his four-year contract extension, Urbik said Buffalo was his choice all along.

"Definitely wanted to stay here," he said. "It's a great city, great team, and I know that this year's a little disappointing but I know that we can definitely be a lot better in the coming years so it's a good decision to stay."

It all came about rather quickly for the two sides. Urbik stuck to what he's good at and let his representation work out all the rest.

"It's been a few weeks just kind of working on it, my agents, where I'd just be focusing on the game," he revealed. "Last week, late last week, they finally came to an agreement. Both sides I think are happy and really excited about it."

Despite being much more set financially, Urbik knew it was already time to get back to business.

"I celebrated it for a day and now we're moving on to Miami. No time to celebrate, still got two more weeks."

Urbik and the Bills take on the Dolphins on the road in their Week 16 matchup.
