Talk Talk Talk

The NHL and NHLPA are expected to meet today with the reported "Drop Dead Date" looming just nine days away.  Deadlines don't seem to mean too much in this whole process.  That said, the players face a deadline of their own today.

Today is the deadline for the players to file for disclaimer of interest.  As the two sides near an agreement it appears less and less likely that the players will file.  There is also the option of an extension of the deadline.

The two sides are working toward an agreement.  The latest reports out of new york indicate the NHLPA is now willing to accept a 10-year CBA under certain conditions, up from its previous offer of an eight-year deal.

The NHL has already backed away from its previous demand of a five-year limit for player contracts.

The expectation is that talks will continue today.  Essentially the players will make the next move with a counter offer, or the disclaimer filing or non-filing.
