The search for the next leader of the Buffalo Bills is underway.
The team's website officially confirmed that the first man interviewed for the vacant position is former Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt. The candidate met with the four-man search party of the Buffalo Bills, which includes Russ Brandon, Buddy Nix, Doug Whaley and Jim Overdorf.
According to a league source, the Bills interest in Whisenhunt as their next head coach is "extremely high." Wednesday morning on WGR Sports Radio 550, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com said there is mutual interest between the two sides.
Over the course of six seasons with the Cardinals, Whisenhunt accrued an overall record of 45-51, winning the NFC West twice and led the franchise to the Super Bowl in his second season. His career playoff record is 4-2.
Before landing with the Cardinals, Whisenhunt served as the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers for three seasons, and was with that organization dating back to 2001.
It was in Pittsburgh that he and Whaley were members of the same staff when Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl in 2006.
In addition to Whisenhunt, the Bills have also been linked in various reports to Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton, former Cardinals offensive line coach Russ Grimm, former Bears head coach Lovie Smith, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly, Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone, Bengals secondary coach Hue Jackson and Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.
The Bills have not confirmed interviews with any of the other names linked to their organization at this point in time.
