Bills GM Nix Backs Gailey; QB a Question Mark

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey's job is secure, though quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick could be facing a challenge for the starting job next season.

That was the assessment general manager Buddy Nix provided on Friday, as the Bills (3-4) come out of their bye week preparing to travel to play at Houston (6-1) on Sunday.

Nix went public in backing of Gailey because he wanted to put to rest any doubts about the coach's future beyond this season. Nix said he maintains confidence in Gailey's ability, and added that changing coaches after three seasons would only set back the team's development.

As for quarterback, Nix intends to add a young player this offseason in order to develop and begin competing for the starting job as early as next year.
