ESPN's John Clayton: Sources Say Bills Have an Interest in Mike Vick

On his weekly appearance with Mike Schopp and the Bulldog, ESPN's John Clayton said that he has been told that the Bills do have an interest in quarterback Michael Vick, if he becomes a free agent.

A conversation about what the Bills plan to do at quarterback in the off-season led to this quote from Clayton:

"You now have a College Coach who knows the read option system and, you can see that there can be a little excitement there maybe that can be a draw for the fans. Buffalo was quite interested in (Vick) before he ended up going to Philadelphia. Everything I hear, according to sources, is that there is interest there. How much money are they willing to spend? He's not going to get the one hundred million dollar contract that he got from Philadelphia."

Clayton thought it was possible that the Bills might be interested in drafting a young QB, possibly Ryan Nassib from Syracuse and then have a veteran QB groom their potential young passer. He did say that Vick is only one option for the team.

"I get the feeling, more than anything else that, I think there is legitimate interest in Michael Vick, but I don't know if it's going to consummate into any deal so, if they don't go for Michael Vick, than they could go for the Syracuse quarterback (Ryan Nassib) or one of the quarterbacks in the draft."
Vick threw for 2,326 yards for the Eagles in 2012. He tossed 12 touchdowns versus 10 interceptions and is due a $15.5 million bonus if he remains on Philadelphia's roster.

Actually
Actually, Vick is not a bad short term solution. He's near the end of his career. He still has talent. He can run and deliver the deep pass. And best of all he's on his way out. If you're going to bring a new QB you want a guy who is ready to be replaced. I could see Vick coming in and prepping a new QB to start. This guy still has game left. Would you pick Fitz or Vick as your QB??? Enough said.

SEEN VICK PLAY
PLEASE STAY FROM DOG MAN BILL DON'T NEED HIS BULL
02/08/2013 6:46AM
Done!
While I have been frustrated with the Bills over the years with the lack of desire to win I've never just walked away from them. If this piece of trash is on the team I will be done with this team for good.

Did anyone who wants Vick over Fitz actually watch either of them play this past season?
Direct comparison of the 2 last season shows that Fitz had a higher completion percentage, averaged the same number of yards per pass, had twice as many TDs and while he had a few more interceptions, he had fewer fumbles and was able to play in all 16 games because he didn't get injured. Watch the games of Fitz and you'll be able to see that coaching and play calling were a big part of what killed the Bills this season. Fitz proved he could take the offense down and score. The defense proved that they can't stop anyone else from doing the same. Vick...his last game was brutal. He looked terrible. And everyone knew that that game was basically his "audition" for any other teams who might be interested. Don't you think you'd want to play your best when "auditioning", not your worst? People need to forget about what Vick did 3-4 seasons ago and look at what he's done lately. He's bad and getting worse. If the Bills take Vick, they're idiots and they will lose at least one lifelong fan.

Vick or Fitz....Really?? I say neither.
Actually I think I would pick Fitz over Vick...Fitz doesn't fumble or get hurt nearly as much as Vick. Michael Vick 5 years ago yeah but not the Michael Vick now. Draft a kid and pick up a veteran to compete. Stop spinning your wheels already on QB's past their prime!!
02/08/2013 9:34AM
Go for it
He can win and the BILLS need wins. He did his time and it's time for us to get over it. BUT, a solid back-up is needed because he is very prone to injury. Take a chance it could be a good thing.

Same Thing
Its the same thing every year. These guys run out of things to talk about before the first week after the super bowl is over. So we get started on the worst free agents out there going to the worst teams out there. No way the new staff comes out as flat as signing a guy like Vick!
02/08/2013 10:46AM
No
Are you kidding? All the big coaching changes this year, and they STILL have the NFL retread mentality. Vick has never been a great quarterback. I'd honestly rather keep Fitz and bring in linebacker and secondary help to actually shut down otherteams than bring Vick in. Is Fitz the answer? No. But there were plenty of games last year that the Bills could have easily won if the defense could have stopped ANYONE!

Hypocracy
Ray Lewis was involved with the murder of two men and got off with an out of court settlement and everyone thinks he's the second coming of Jesus (Lewis probably thinks he is, too). Vick killed animals, and paid dearly for it. If he had killed a couple people instead maybe fans could eventually get on board with the idea of him playing quarterback here next year.
02/08/2013 12:29PM
Actually
You hit it right on the money! Vick is a big upgrade over fitz, he can still trhow the ball down field over 40 yards!
02/08/2013 12:34PM
Murdering QB
Nobody wants Vick!
02/08/2013 12:48PM
Mortenson
When "MORT SPEAKS" I will listen. Clayton should return to the HIGH SCHOOL BEAT!
02/08/2013 1:54PM
Please
Get him the HELL out of Philly.
02/08/2013 1:57PM
No thanks
Dump Fitz an Pigpen, as they are useless!! Keep Jackson and draft Maronne's boy from Cuse. If the outcome is the same after 3years, sell the team to the owner of Labatts for 51% stake in the Brewery and divide the share amongst the season ticket holders!! Vick will bring you nothing except false hope!!
02/08/2013 2:03PM
No thanks
Vick, when he came back into the league, was used goods. Spent. Not a leader. He's washed up, and IMO this would be akin to bringing in TO at WR as a gimmick to sell tickets. Brandon says that his marketing paws are not on the franchise, but this would stink of just that. No, I like signing Alex Smith from the 49ers, and drafting Nassib, Jones, or Arkansas' QB for the future. Let Fitz & Jackson duel it out for the #2 spot. But absolutely NO Vick.
02/08/2013 2:18PM
No to the Dog Killer
Seriously, this dude killed dogs. Think about that and then tell me how you can justify rooting for him. If the Bills sign him, they are finally dead to me.
02/08/2013 3:39PM
Blame it on the snow
Where are the blogs???? Don't you guys have laptops? Pathetic.
02/08/2013 4:35PM
No way!!!!
Not at all interested in the dog killing scumbag!!!
02/08/2013 6:57PM
The Bills already have a Smith... Brad Smith
Why the hell did Chan go with Fitz over Brad Smith? Brad is similar in size, strength, speed and arm strength to Kapernek! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e30LHzTq7-s We don't need Vick.
02/08/2013 7:16PM
fitz gone pple are MORONS
Fitz stays everyone who wants him gone is a moron not for wanting him gone for not understanding that were not just going to cut him still pay him and let him go play somewhere else just stupid!
02/08/2013 8:49PM
He's not saying anything
I don't really think this hold any merit....Clayton says he heard the Bills might be interested IF Vick is a FA. He isn't a FA yet and may not be if Kelly decides he wants to keep him around...then he says, maybe they will draft Nassib OR maybe another QB in the league....the way I see it, Clayton will be 100% correct with his prediction because he's covering all the obvious options...really tired of the "experts" making claims without real validation or insight....next rumor, please....
02/09/2013 12:43AM
Vick is done - get Alex Smith
Wherever Vick plays in 2013-14, he will almost certainly spend much of the season injured, and he is unlikely to see the playoffs again. Go for a younger guy with decent talent, like Alex Smith.
02/09/2013 11:06AM
we'll take em!!
then we can develop a quarterback we pick in the second round of the draft. Smith will probably sign with the Cardinals so vick would our best choice.
02/09/2013 5:24PM
Clayton is a joke but so are the Bills
I think he has the Bills front office nailed. Never underestimate their collective stupidity.
02/09/2013 7:13PM
Vick????
Good grief Charlie Brown! Yeah Buffalo let's keep up that one step forward and two steps back.
02/09/2013 7:26PM
dont get me wrong
I think Fitz is a good guy, a smart man, an athelete that really trys hard, if he only had the physical skills, Chan Galley wouldnt of been let go. He understood what to do, but just couldnt do it. Buffalo needs a smart quarterback to manage the game, with a strong arm to keep the defense honest. Vick is not that, Smith might be.
02/10/2013 1:12PM
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!
PLEASE, NEVER! PLEASE, NEVER!
02/10/2013 4:13PM
Michael Vick
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
02/10/2013 4:22PM
bills suck anyways
like it matters the bills suck. No matter who they get they always seem to mess something up.
02/10/2013 9:52PM
Nassib not the answer
Saw him play a bunch.....he's not our answer regardless of his SU connection
