Sabres Outlast Islanders 3-2

















The Buffalo Sabres defeated the New York Islanders 3-2 on Long Island on Saturday night.

First Period

Thomas Vanek continued his incredible scoring pace by opening Friday night's game at 9:11 of the first period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead.

Toward the end of the period, Islanders forward John Tavares scored a goal after Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff fell down.

Second Period

The Sabres continued to get out-shot by the Isles, but Ryan Miller made several terrific saves allowing just one goal in the second.

Christian Ehrhoff stepped into a play at around the 12 minute mark and snapped a shot past Evgeni Nabakov. The Sabres briefly held the lead before Colin McDonald scored on a wrist shot to tie the game at two.

Third Period

The Sabres took the lead 7:35 into the third period when an Alex Sulzer slap shot got past Nabakov to make the game 3-2.

Ryan Miller held strong in the third and stopped a John Tavares penalty shot. After being out-shot 43 to 15, the Sabres come away with a 3-2 win.

Yikes...
Another period where the Sabres are outshot by a 4:1 margin and they don't even seem to see the lack of effort as an issue. They can't complete two consecutive passes and they are taken off the puck with the utmost of ease. It's becoming downright painful to watch...can't wait for the next two periods

After watching this game I have no hope for this team, another lucky win, they can not play a solid game and the coach is okay with this. Our defense is putrid same for our second and third lines. When are you gonna wake up Pegula alot of real fans arelosing their patience with you and especially with Lindy!

Two and a Half.....
....Lines. The Sabres aren't going to win too many games playing 8 forwards. Look at the shot totals tonight. If Miller's ordinary (or Enroth) they get blown out here. While Leopold and others continue to struggle on the back end the Sabres need to find at least three lines that can skate every night. So, along those lines can we finallt declare Gerbe a minor leaguer and ship him to Rochester in exchange for a legit prospect or just someone that can bring more size to the fight? It seems the first two lines are set and clearly Ott and Kaleta when healthy are going to get a regular shift but what of the rest? Grigorenko seems like he would be best suited for a 4th line developmental role, alongside the likes of Hecht, McCormick, Ellis (insert other fill in 4th lines guys here). That leaves the need for a third line C...how about Porter from Rochester. He has plenty of NHL games, is reportedly the best on the farm so what's the wait? Darcy afraid to admit he blew it on Gerbe (who is owed $1.8 million by the way next year on a guaranteed, one way contract) who has heart and effort up the wahzoo but no size and not enough pure talent to go with it? Better find the answer soon....getting outshot by the Isles of all people 43-15 should make the management boys wake up and face facts. Two and a half lines ain't gettin' it done.

You only have to look at the energy and confidence Boyes is playing with to understand how a coach like Ruff can stiffle a decent player. Until Ruff is gone along with Darcy the Sabres will struggle.

15 shots a game is rediculous and unacceptable. Lucky to win that game, Miller definitely pulled that one out. I'd tell these guys to get 15 shots a period or i'd skate em to death the next day......you'd see what happens then.

That was your win. You two were 80% responsible for that win. And so we escape Long Island by the skin of your teeth, A Win is A win, Great! I truly hope the reat of the team plays out of their minds against the B's tonight. You know Boston will beplaying with a little extra effort after what happened in Beantown their last meeting. And I really can't see Enroth or Miller having the same game against Boston as Miller did against the Isles.

Myers scratched?
So that is the way to fix him huh? Did you ever think maybe he needs the same defensive partner for at least two games in a row. He played hi best game in a long time with Pardy and the next game they take Pardy out of the lineup and Myers sucks again. The thing I hate most about Ruff is he is always messing with the lines and d-pairings. This team has no consistency in any facet of the game. The only thing consistent is that they draft soft small players like the game is still be played years ago. Everyone who knows anything can see the game has changed and you need big physical forwards. I think the Erhoff deal was awful everyone talks about how good he is. I just don't see it. The throwin Sulzer outplays him most of the time.

Miller earned his paycheck but did the other Sabres? what is with Pomerpuff and Standstill? they had break aways with a good chance of makin a goal but pass it away? quit being so crafty n just drill the puck-so it doesn't go in? rebound is a possibility- just look at the shots on goal? the Islanders had a field day - ask Miller? are the Sabres that afraid to shoot on goal? well time will tell

If if wasn't for Miller doing his best impression of the Dominator along with a couple of post shots we lose 4-3. This the type of game miller was supposed to steal every night for this team, being outshot 43 to 15. Some nights the direct opposite could happen and we lose 3-2 because a soft late goal is scored on Miller. Please Linde why is Gerbe on this team and we have to sit McCormick? Now of course with two wins in a row we will see how Linde manages his goalies? I think Ruff's best quote of the year came the other night when he said he was "dumbfounded". Well he at least got half of it right!

Watching this, I thought the Islanders and Sabres switched jerseys. You could have sworn they did by the shot totals. Since that didn't happen, I know now how bad the Sabres really are. Wait a minute...was that the system played to perfection defending in your own end all night and watching the Islanders dominate like water spiders in a pond and the Sabres waiting for them to make a mistake? I would rather this team go down in flames this season trying their best then this. They are mediocre at best. The coaching and management are a joke. Here's a thought ... since your so called veterans beyond the top line are unable to sustain any pressure in the O Zone how about setting up an all rookie line Tropp and Foligno centered by Grigorenko as your second line? At the very least they might be hungry for a chance to play. Could it possibly do any worse then the so called veterans? Cobble a checking line out of Kaleta, Ott, and Scott. Then let the rest fight for the remaining three positions Wait that's way to progressive thinking for this team ... what was I thinking. Oh well maybe next year ...

Pegulaville is Loserville
Anyone who still believe Terry Pegula has a vested interest in putting a winner on the ice after years of futility is drinking the same Kool-Aid that Ralph Wilson is. Pegula is just a rich fan who plays favorites (Ruff and Regier) and is blind or ignorant to the mess this Buffalo Sabres team is. And here many of us had hopes for a revival of a once proud organization, but evidently all we got as fans is a bunch of BS, a new lockerroom for the players, 50% of cheap merchandise made in China and baby tears over a Sabres great. Blah blah blah, this teams a joke and anyone who thinks Lindy Ruff isnt the problem or Darcy Regier is a straight up clueless dolt. I hope this team finishes dead last overall just to show Pegula how much of a laughingstock his precious "toy" team really is.
