Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) -- The Buffalo Sabres have waived forward Cody McCormick. He left the ice during Wednesday's practice at the First Niagara Center. The move may have been made to clear room on the roster to call up a player from Rochester. Lindy Ruff said, “Part of it is with John there, we’re crowded at that position and with Pat Kaleta on the right side, I tried to give him a look at center. We’ve just got too much of the same thing.”
TSN.ca in Canada reports that the Sabres tried to trade McCormick before making this move.

After a pathetic effort by the team last night, Darcy waives a heart and soul guy who would go through a wall for the team. Continue to keep the soft uninspired players like Stafford, Hecht (couldn't get out of the way of a check fast enough last night), etc. Led by the soft, full of excuses every night Jason Pominville, this team will maske a big run for the overall 1st draft pick. Mr. Pegula when will you wake up and get rid of your pathetic R&R hockey department. We have suffered too long with these clowns. The whole league is laughing at you and this pathetic organization -- get some courage and make the tough, right decisions -- start fresh!

Waived during practice ? This seems a bit unusual. Not that McCormick was invaluable. He had teamates back so I imagine he was respected. This is not how you waive a guy whose respected. So we are gonna get another guy to play 4th line minutes. Either McCormick said something that rankled management and they're sending a message or they're clueless. Likely a little of both. This team is a mess.

Why?
On a team with very little heart why would you trade/waive a player that has so much! Cody McCormick is the type of player the Sabres need. We need goals and team toughness. Not a rookie from Rochester. Remember the days of Ray/May/Barnaby/Boughner? The team wasn't the most talented but the fans never gave up on the team.
I think its time to make a big trade. Pominville is never going to be worth more then he is right now. He is proably one of the few NHL captains that has never dropped the gloves and I can't see him doing that anytime soon.
Anyone can sit here and list 10-20 reason why the Sabres aren't doing well. The truth is the answer lies in the locker room. It all boils down to HEART.

I can think of two more qualified players who should be waived. 1st by a long shot is Hecht, then Gerbe. Hecht doesnt pay the price, he offers nothing of value. His signing was a joke then, and even more of one now. Gerbe offers a little hustle but nothing else. I would rather see Mancari up on a line with Ott and Grigerenko.
Honestly, I can think of two others even more deserving to be gone.......Darcy and Lindy are a JOKE!!!!!

Stafford should be on McCormick's heels out the door. Norty Knox must be rolling over in his grave. Wishing for the days when wearing a blue and gold sweater meant something important. In my book, Ruff is not the problem. I'd go to war with Ruff every day of the week. There was 3 bash brothers (Kaleta, Weber and McCormick) 3 seasons ago bash everyone in sight and hitting everything. last year they added Mr Suspension and the bashing slowed down and suspension were handed out. Kaleta reform his game, McCormick was starting to but Weber doesn't fit in but he continues to play. Its when he plays like a jinx they lose. Why McCormick and not Weber -19 in 2011-12 there better talent in Rochester.
Good Cody hope its just a trip to Rochester but the Coyotes would really love ya too.

Cody McCormick is one of the more talented fourth line players in the entire league. He's a great skater, has decent hands, hits, is a darn good fighter and most importantly he has heart and puts in effort. There are other players I would have released first.

Clean house & bring Cody back
This team is too soft which falls on the GM who built it. We need Team Toughness not just a couple guys but the whole team.I would rather watch a team of Cody McCormicks play because they play with heart & soul every shift than a bunch of so-called offensive players who never pay the price too score "dirty" goals and never hit anybody or win the one on one battles along the boards. The team takes on the personality of the GM & Coach. Bring in someone like Rick Dudley to be GM and Bring Cody back up.It has gotten to the point that I would rather watch paint dry than watch this team play !!!
