Sabres Defeat Devils 4-3 in Shootout

The Buffalo Sabres defeated the New Jersey Devils at First Niagara Center in a shootout  on Saturday afternoon. Jason Pominville led the Sabres with two goals and Ryan Miller stopped 28 of 31 shots in the win. Miller also stopped both shootout shots to seal the victory

The Sabres took the lead in the second period  on a nifty short-handed goal. Cody Hodgson set up Jason Pominville, who ripped a shot past Johan Hedberg. The Devils jumped back in the game shortly after, tying it at 1-1 on a good bounce for the Devils off of Steve Bernier.

In the third, both teams scored twice. The Sabres took a 3-2 lead on Jochen Hecht's first goal of the season, but the Devils bounced back again with a goal from Andrei Loktionov.

The teams went to a shootout where Pominville and Tyler Ennis scored and Miller stopped both shots faced. The Sabres now 8-12-1 on the year.

Re: 3 stars
I think Cody Hodgson should be the third star. He has 2 very nice assists and 2. Tyler has no assists and -2.

Time Will Tell?
Sabres have put together 3 decent wins- question is? can they keep it rolling? it is good to see some of the Amerks moving up to the BIG team- they might not score but they can help considering they are in better shape and gives the Sabres "fresh" legs AND they are hungry to play in the big league and will play hard to stay there

0 for 8 on the PP
And against the back-up goalie. I see no progress

Worst Headlines Ever
I have never seen such boring headlines for a new agency. Sabres Win, Sabres Defeat, etc... 3 wins in a row and that's the best you guys can come up with. What a lack of emotion and enthusiasm and creativity. We need to upgrade the staff in our media here in Buffalo. Totally amateur

Nice Way To Celebrate
Hey WGR55 - Nice way to celebrate a good victory; showing a NJ Goal being scored. Idiots

Thoughts on Porter
When I see the Porter on the ice, at least offensively, he looks like a good skater and handler of the puck. I'll have to record the games or really watch him a lot closer. I know that it hasn't translated to points, but he seems to pass the eye test. Any thoughts on his play?

No progress?!
Yes, against a back-up goalie, they won. But up until now, they weren't really a sure thing to even beat a 4th line, much less a back-up goalie. There were definite improvements visible in this game. But there's still a lot of games left to play. I agree with "Time Will Tell?"

Don't get too excited
These 3 wins were all against backup goalies. The Sabres have been outshot badly in every game. Only Miller has kept them in the games. Let's see how they do against some first string opposition. This is not a contender no matter how they spin it. this is the annual heroic run for 9th place. Let's face it, this club does not have it and the sooner Sabres ownership realizes it and gets rid of Darcy and the Darcy lookalike, soundalike coach, and the Darcy lookalike and soundalike players like Pommenville, Stafford and Hecht, the sooner they can really become contenders.

And the elevator music just keeps playing on...

RE: 0 for 8 on the PP
I think there is progress in that 3 weeks ago they would have lost this game 3-0. Also, Myers is still lethargic. I wish they could buy out Myers and have some clause that he wouldn't be able to play for anyone else. Why not cripple his career the way he is crippling the Sabres?
