Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- The Buffalo Bills will be keeping two pieces from the 2012 roster that were previously unsigned.
On Wednesday the team announced that they have tendered a qualifying offer to tight end Dorin Dickerson. After taking part in the team's rookie mini-camp as an invited tryout participant, the Bills signed Dickerson shortly after the workouts ended. He appeared in 11 games for Buffalo last season, catching nine passes for 117 yards.
After spending his first year with the Bills in 2012, Dickerson was an exclusive rights free agent. Players with that distinction are ones with no more than two accrued seasons in the NFL, and have only two choices if the team that holds their rights extend them a qualifying offer. They can either sign with that team, or they are free to leave the NFL entirely.
Dickerson's role could expand with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's system as a true fit to an H-back role. He's 6-foot-1, 226-pounds and will be 25 years old when training camp starts in July.
The Bills have also come to terms on a contract with nickel linebacker Bryan Scott.
A member of Buffalo's roster since 2007, Scott tweeted out the top of a picture of his newly signed contract with the Bills. In 2012, the linebacker saw a hearty amount of snaps while teams mostly kept the Bills defense out of their normal 4-3 base, forcing them in to nickel personnel.
He had 66 tackles, four interceptions and two forced fumbles on the season. He'll be entering his 11th season, and will be 32-years old when training camp gets underway.
The Bills have yet to officially confirm the Scott move.
The free agency period in the NFL is set to begin on Tuesday, March 12 at 4 pm. However, teams may speak with the representation of any impending free agents starting on Saturday, March 9, the first time teams have been able to do so. Teams may not make direct contact with the players themselves, however.
I'll try this again... Bad Move...too slow and small...
Scott is too slow to play in an "NFL" defense. Many times people like Tom Brady have abused Scott throwing to RB's and TE's isolated man to man on poor slow Scott. Being too small at LB, He's tortured in the running game as well. There has to be faster linebackers with better abilities than him in free agency and the draft. Hope this makes it this time..4vr4
Another in a long line of Bills players...
...just good enough to get ya beat. He was slowing down last year. He gonna be any better a year older?
Last i saw for several seasons is that Scott can't cover good tight ends. But let's resign the 'hybrid' linebacker. Here's hoping they score 6 starters in the draft right ha.
Lets just think about this all you naysayers. The bills have so many holes to fill. Why wouldnt you re-sign him??? He is dependable, a veteran, and mediocre. He can be a backup or play nickel, or maybe they will even change his position who cares!! Thankgod you people dont run the team because the bills would have nobody. Better to sign him now and cut him later rather than the opposite.
why bring back a guy who cant cover or stop the run.another bone head move by the bills.
The New "On the Cheap" with new coaching begins
You gotta be kidding me. Has Fitzpatrick been cut yet? What a joke!!!
