Realignment

NHLPA Gives Consent for Realignment

The NHL Players Association has voted and given consent for the NHL to realign Divisions and Conference next season. The new-look NHL will have Buffalo in a Division with the same teams as now, but adding Detroit, Tampa Bay, and Florida. The Board of Governors needs to apporve the measure, which is expected within the next week or so. The new format will be re-evaluated after the 2014-15 season.

Here is a look at the new Divisions and Conference.

Ahhhhhh
Real Dumb Mathematicians! So 8 of 16 get in vs. 8 of 14, that levels the playing field from 8 of 15 vs. 8 of 15.

Geography
Just looking at geography here Florida should be in the Atlantic, Pittsburgh in the Central, and Detroit in the Midwest.

Pittsburgh and Columbus to the Central and Boston and Florida to the Atlantic if they are really looking at geography.

Swap Boston with Pittsburgh, Columbus with Florida and the geographical names would make sense.

Not a good idea
The Sabres would never make the playoffs.

Put the sabres in last place
Doesn't matter which division

playoffs...
...is something this team, as it's constructed, won't see anymore. Especially bringing Detroit into the division. Only the top 3 in each division, plus two wildcards from each conference make it. Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto are all better, plus Boston and Detroit? Good luck. Make some changes, Pegula, or else you're going to on the outside looking in every spring.

UGH...
I hate when the Leagues have an opportunity to actually realign and then proceed to NOT do it properly. Happened when the NFL "realigned" into 8 divisions and the NHL follows suit. Pittsburgh and Columbus should be in Central with some combination of Boston, Florida or Tampa in the East. Or, better yet, put Detroit in the Midwest so that there are even conferences. Is it really that much of a scheduling complication to have 15 teams in each conference?

NHL blew it again swap Boston for Pittsburg makes more senseand leave Detroit mid west IDIOTS

Eastern Conference
It should be: Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Columbus, Tampa in the Central and Boston, Rangers, Islanders, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington, Carolina and Florida in the Atlantic

Math
I agree with the first post. Why is the west an 8 out of 14 chance (57%) to make the playoffs but the east is an 8 out of 16 chance? (50%) If I am a free agent, I am signing with a team in the west.

When assessing the Bills defense, what has been the biggest problem?
  It was mostly coaching
It was mostly a lack of talent
It was 50/50 coaching and talent
