Flyers Trump Sabres 3-2

Special teams were the difference in the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday night.

The Flyers were all over Buffalo in the opening minutes of the game. As a result, Philadelphia gained an early power play and used that to take a 1-0 lead. Simon Gagne was able to beat the Sabres' defense, and slide a wrist shot between the pads of Ryan Miller for the goal. The score came with Robyn Regher in the box for high sticking. The lead was increased to two thanks to a short handed goal. Max Talbot out home the chance after Steve Ott turned the puck over in the offensive zone. At the time of the goal, shots in the period were 9-0.

It took nearly twelve minutes, but a pair of shots by the blue and gold resulted in their first goal of the contest. Brian Flynn's second goal in as many games made the score 2-1, Philadelphia in the opening stanza. The game took an edgier tone thanks to a big hit by Wayne Simmonds late in the frame. Simmonds hit Tyler Ennis from behind along the boards, drawing the ire of Mike Weber. John Scott was given a ten-minute misconduct later in the period while jostling with Zac Rinaldo before a faceoff. Ennis did not return to the game with an upper body injury.

Claude Giroux wasted no time in giving the home team another two-goal lead. The forward's power play goal just seventeen seconds into the middle frame upped the Flyers' lead to 3-1. Jochen Hecht was in the penalty box for a high sticking minor.

Hecht brought the blue and gold back to within a goal with a short handed tally early in the third period. Steve Ott feathered a pass across the ice to Hecht, who beat Ilya Bryzgalov with the shot, 3-2 Flyers. However, that would be it for the scoring, and the blue and gold fell one goal short.

Next up for the Sabres is a seven o'clock meeting with the New York Rangers at First Niagara Center on Tuesday night. Catch all of the action on the flagship home of the Sabres Radio Network - WGR Sports Radio 550. Pregame starts at 6 p.m.

Stick a fork in them
That first period was terrible, how do you come out that poorly. Let's trade away folks, stockpile some picks and prospects and let the young guys play. Get some cap space and try and land someone over the summer. This group is not marching to the same drummer. Sorry Ron, you should not have had to inherit such a dysfunctional group.

I had it with Mister Softee
Trade the Bum!!!
03/11/2013 9:22AM
Any trades yet?
The elevator music plays on. FIRE REGEIR!!!
03/11/2013 9:54AM
wow
It amazes me that Darcy has faith in this group. They obviously are not good enough, and not going to win this year. Why he isnt pulling the trigger on some deals is beyond me. Do something!!!!!!!
03/11/2013 10:11AM
This team is DONE
Pomminville don't think so, but I think so. Even the strongest disinfectant can get rid of how bad this team stinks. They are DONE...DONE...DONE...DONE. Please Mister Pegula...Fire Darcy now!!! Just tuned out Shillvester again 4 minutes in and putmy stereo on. I had enough of that idiot. He is no help what so ever. PLANE IDIOT!!!

The solution to this is simple
Ted Black - this isn't xBox. Please build (2) Harbor Centers instead of one. That will fix this mess. You boys have got it all under control.
03/11/2013 10:19AM
what are they watching?
i think pegula, black and sawyer should be sued for malfeasance. they are profiting greatly by the blind trust of the fans, allowing regier anymore time is criminal. shame on all of them.. the league should look into the whole operation.

The run to pick
number one over all continues. Go sabres. Two years of pain= Chicago. The question is does Pagula trust Darcy to make the picks.
03/11/2013 11:03AM
What's that song by Tom Petty?
Oh yeah, "Free Fallin" Somehow, his version has a more positive feel doesn't it? I, for one, feel that the Sabres need to put Nathan Gerbe, Mikhail Grigorenko and Andre Sekera on the ice more often. This way we can watch NOTHING on the ice! Oh silly me, I forgot that Yashin has a ton of talent. Did I say Yashin? I meant Grigorenko, sorry.

Kevin Sylvester
What a shill this guy is. He won't take my call on Firing Darcy. I got screened out. I hate Hockey "Company" Hotline. What a waste of airtime. Does he even realize that this hockey team sucks or is he told what to do? The show is a joke.
03/11/2013 11:55AM
If the game isn't exciting
throw in some commentary about what happened to get Scott a misconduct or how someone needs to teach Weber not to block fists with his head. You know, the interesting stuff.

Where are the blogs on this game?
Must be all Ryan Miller's fault again. Three Gary Bromley type clunkers...I would say so.
03/11/2013 1:22PM
This team sucks
Fire Darcy, i do not trust him with the draft or the trading deadline.
03/11/2013 2:01PM
Ted Nolan
A Ted Nolan-coached team doesn't get steam-rolled and beat up the way the Sabres got beat up last night. A team can have all of the talent in the world but without guts, you get what we are getting now. Bring back Ted.

Beefing up
Sabres are not going to be pushed around anymore, says management as they added players. Let's see, Ott is trying, Scott dosen't play very much, Joe Flynn was traded, McCormick and McNabb are in Rochester. How's that working out for you?
03/11/2013 6:49PM

Re: Kevin Sylvester
With Peters with him, the best description for this show is a train wreck.
03/12/2013 11:53AM
Rolston segment
I expected Howard and Jeremy to be tough this morning. I expected wrong. It was SOFT as always. A shilling experience. Howard and Jeremy = Panzies interviewing any Sabres brass. Can't wait for another charminised remix with Ted Black later in the week and Firing Darcy won't be mentioned. We like our team!!!
03/12/2013 1:34PM
Weird
This team was better when they had Brad Boyes just saying.
03/12/2013 2:50PM
