Remembering Dwight Adams

One of my favorite all time Buffalo sports personalities passed away on Sunday. There was no one else quite like Dwight Adams.

King James

Wow.  Even for one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA, Wow!

JW: So about that NASCAR race...

Did you hear the race on Sunday?

No, I’m not asking if you heard ABOUT the race, I want to know if you could hear it back here in Buffalo.

It’s.  So.  Loud.

A NASCAR race is land-a-Harrier-Jump-Jet-in-your-ear-canal loud.  It’s a lot of other things too….

It was a tough week

Last week the sports world lost two giants and the Buffalo radio community suffered a big loss too.

Should Bills show Gilmore the money?

It wasn’t too long ago the Buffalo Bills were criticized for letting too many of their best players leave via free agency.  Is it possible the opposite will now be an issue for the team?

Its time for MLB to kill "the code"

Let me start by saying I’m an “old school guy”. But its time for Major League Baseball to grow up.

Bruce Smith gets a well a deserved honor from the Bills

BRUUUUCE!!!! Just say that and any Buffalo sports fan who was around for the 1980's and 1990's knows exactly who you're referring to.

Was it a perfect draft?

Something weird happened over the weekend.  The Bills had a draft that left most of their fans happy.

Free advice for the Bills brain trust

I finally have my plan of attack for the Buffalo Bills and the first round of the NFL draft.  Click here to check it out and then react as you see fit.

Are the Bills playing with fire regarding Tyrod Taylor?

I’m not the general manager of an NFL team but I play one on the radio.  If I were the GM of the Buffalo Bills, I’d be handling the Tyrod Taylor contract situation exactly the same way.

Is Sabres season a success?

As we enter the final week of the NHL season, the standings say the Sabres are closer to last place overall than a playoff spot.  But is there anyone who doesn't think the season has been more of a success than failure?

Is Auston Matthews better than Jack Eichel?

Where would Auston Matthews have been slotted in last years NHL draft? Click here to find out the answer.

Hey NFL, its the catch rule!

NFL owners are discussing 19 different rules proposals this week but they aren't talking about the most important one.

What a day for UB basketball

Mark it down.  March 12, 2016.  Perhaps the greatest single day in the history of University at Buffalo sports.

A quiet prelude to what should be an active Sabres summer

Well, that was pretty boring.

I'm worried for Scott Norwood

It must be pretty cool to be a professional athlete, right? Maybe not.  Just ask Scott Norwood.

My off season plan for the Bills

They haven’t asked me but if the Bills were wondering, here’s what they can do this off season to make me happy. Draft a quarterback and in the first round if you can.  Yes, despite the fact most of you would be happy to see the Bills use

Bills shouldn't follow the "Denver model"

Defense wins championships.  Its been a popular phrase amongst Bills fans since Sunday night.

The NHL had a great weekend

The NHL does plenty of things that make us shake our collective heads but its time to give the league some credit.

JW: Playing the Game

Bills GM Doug Whaley says that the Bills are open to the idea of a contract extension with Tyrod Taylor.  Is Tyrod open to one?  Should he be?  WGR's Jeremy White runs down the five factors that could play into this game, from holdout, to 1st round QB.

Will Eichel and Girgensons be a long term pair?

Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma was a guest on WGR on Tuesday.  Click here to find out what he had to say about the chemistry between Jack Eichel and Zemgus Girgensons in the game against the New York Rangers.

Free advice for the NFL

As we prepare for the penultimate day of football in the 2015 NFL season, I’m wondering again how many times I will think to myself “why doesn’t the NFL just follow the lead of college football?”

Oh, Brother!

When it comes to the hiring of Rob Ryan as Bills Assistant Head Coach/Defense, I'm not surprised and I'm not happy.

Bills go out on a high note

I was wrong.  I went into the game feeling like it wouldn’t matter to me but it did.

My Bills and NFL week 16 thoughts

As is always the case when it comes to the late December portion of the NFL schedule, we remember just how boring late season, meaningless games can be.  If I didn’t have to watch the Bills-Dallas game because of my job, there is no way I would

Another soul sucking loss by Bills

That one hurt, a lot.

JW: State of the Sabres

Through 28 games this season, the Sabres have 25 points.  Through the same amount last year, they’d picked up 22 points.  A three point gain certainly wouldn’t tell the story though, would it?  Jeremy White takes a look at what’s happening, and what should come next.

Bills get the "must" win

This was about as close to a must win game as you can get and the Bills took care of business.

Pin this Bills loss on Rex Ryan

Brutal.  Absolutely brutal.

Bills-Pats primer

I hope you enjoyed a relaxing Sunday of watching the NFL.  Now its time to get serious and its time to study up on the Bills and Patriots in advance of Monday night's clash.

Time to challenge the NHL coach's challenge

The NHL has a problem on its hands and it reared its ugly head, again, in Buffalo this week.

Good health means good production for Bills offense

What a difference a healthy lineup makes for the Bills offense.  But you probably knew that, didn't you?

Even by Bills standards, this is truly depressing

And cut.  That's a wrap everyone, thanks for coming to the 2015 season and please arrive home safely.

JW: All-22 Review: Bills/Titans

We've learned that Tyrod Taylor is unlikely to play this week against the Bengals.  Taylor made some great plays last week, but the passing game was limited, to say the least.  In this week's  All-22 review we'll see a big part of the field ignored by the offense, and the latest masterpiece from the defensive line.

Bills survive and advance

I'm not sure where the Bills season goes from here but I'm pretty sure it would have gone down the you know what if they didn't beat Tennessee.

A depressing Bills Sunday

For the second straight home game, the Bills laid an egg and at times were their own worst enemy.

Bills bounce back in a big way

It was a game where you could actually put your feet up and relax.  Click here to read Howard Simon's thoughts on the Bills 41-14 thrashing of the Miami Dolphins.

UB Football moving in right direction

The record says 2-2 but there are a number of encouraging signs for UB's football team as they prepare for MAC play.

JW: Racket-ology - The Sabres Goal Song Vote

The Buffalo Sabres have launched a fan-driven goal song bracket.  There are eight nominees and the team is asking all of us to help decide the anthem to be played when the team lights the lamp.  Jeremy White takes a look at the Racket Bracket.  (Get it?  Racket?)

Bills vs Brady: Been there, done that

I'm getting pretty tired of writing these Brady crushed the Bills columns but I sure have had a lot of practice.

Milford Academy: The place LeSean McCoy shaped his NFL career

LeSean McCoy suffered a serious ankle injury in high school. He went to Milford Academy to recover. There, he got over tough times and became the player he is today.

D goes on the offensive in UB Bulls win

A UB defense loaded with questions when the season began, had all the answers in a 33-15 win over Florida Atlantic. Click here to read Howard Simon's thoughts on the Bulls win.

Bills defense and Tyrod Taylor equal opening day win

Tyrod Taylor had a good day and the defense frustrated Andrew Luck. That's why Rex Ryan's Bills are 1-0.

Report details extent of Patriots cheating in Spygate

An ESPN report with new details about the Patriots alleged cheating during Spygate will not make life any easier for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

I choose Tyrod Taylor

If Rex Ryan's plan with the quarterback competition included confusing the Indianapolis Colts, then job well done sir. But I know who I'd like to see start in week one.

Assessing Bills QB race after pre-season opener

Here's how the Bills pre season opener impacted the three man quarterback competition, in my humble opinion.

Rex Ryan a big hit with Bills defense

It's the same reaction every time.  Ask any defensive player on the Buffalo Bills about Rex Ryan and that player will have a huge smile on his face. Players were happy with the last two men to oversee the defense, Mike Pettine and Jim Schwartz,

Bills' EJ Manuel knows its a production league

In the Bills original master plan for EJ Manuel, he would have a firm grasp on the quarterback position entering year three in the NFL, not fighting for the starting job and perhaps even a roster spot.

Bills GM: We're almost in quarterback purgatory

Bills general manager Doug Whaley was a guest on WGR Wednesday. Click here to find out what he had to say about the quarterback situation, current and future.

Bills Prez: Time to toss playoff drought anvil into Lake Erie

Bills president and managing partner Russ Brandon was on WGR during day one of training camp coverage from St. John Fisher.  Click here to find out what he had to say.

Bills training camp questions

When the Bills hold their first practice at training camp on Friday, I'll be doing something I've never done before at any other Bills camp.

Thanks Van.

Broadcasting royalty. That is how I would describe Van Miller.

Bills face important decision

The Buffalo Bills have a very important decision to make with training camp only two weeks away and it has nothing to do with the quarterback competition.

Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe on WGR
