As it was first reported, the Bills and cornerback Leodis McKelvin agreed to a 4-year deal worth $20 million. WGR Sports Radio 550 has obtained the numbers of the contract to find out it's actually a 4-year deal worth $17 million.
Upon signing, McKelvin received a $4 million bonus, and will make a total of $6.05 million in actual cash 2013, but will only carry a cap hit of $3.05 million. McKelvin's base salary of $2 million in 2013 is fully guaranteed.
In 2014, $1.5 million of McKelvin's $2.1 million base salary is guaranteed, and he'll carry a cap hit of $4.15 million for that season.
Starting in 2015, there is no more guaranteed money owed to McKelvin. Over the final two years of the contract, McKelvin has matching cap numbers of $4.9 million in 2015 and $4.9 million in 2016. If the Bills were to cut him after the 2014 season, it would rack up either a $2 million cap hit against 2015's figures, or $1 million in 2015 and $1 million in 2016.
With McKelvin's contract and Fitzpatrick being released, the Bills have between approximately $25 and $26 million in cap room for 2013. The cap room that will have to be assigned to the Bills' 2013 NFL Draft class has not been taken out of those figures.
