McKelvin's deal with Bills worth $17M over 4

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- Sometimes when it comes to reported contracts in the NFL, you just have to take a step back, breathe, and wait for the actual numbers to come in.

As it was first reported, the Bills and cornerback Leodis McKelvin agreed to a 4-year deal worth $20 million. WGR Sports Radio 550 has obtained the numbers of the contract to find out it's actually a 4-year deal worth $17 million.

Upon signing, McKelvin received a $4 million bonus, and will make a total of $6.05 million in actual cash 2013, but will only carry a cap hit of $3.05 million. McKelvin's base salary of $2 million in 2013 is fully guaranteed.

In 2014, $1.5 million of McKelvin's $2.1 million base salary is guaranteed, and he'll carry a cap hit of $4.15 million for that season.

Starting in 2015, there is no more guaranteed money owed to McKelvin. Over the final two years of the contract, McKelvin has matching cap numbers of $4.9 million in 2015 and $4.9 million in 2016. If the Bills were to cut him after the 2014 season, it would rack up either a $2 million cap hit against 2015's figures, or $1 million in 2015 and $1 million in 2016.

With McKelvin's contract and Fitzpatrick being released, the Bills have between approximately $25 and $26 million in cap room for 2013. The cap room that will have to be assigned to the Bills' 2013 NFL Draft class has not been taken out of those figures.

Alot for a Return Man
That's alot of cash for a guy whose proven he cant cover anybody. Why they resigned leodis and continue to hang onto Brad Smith is a mystery. Thats approx $7 million committed to two "specialty" players. Couldn't we have gottena top corner in FA for that, or a stud linebacker? tOO BAD THE tAMPA gm didn't ask Buddy what he was thinking about with those two guys so we all could've known.

"Do I deserve the muney ? Yeth, I do".
I love his comment that he is always close to the receiver. Close enough to see them catch the ball in front, to the side and behind you, Leodis. This guy is as dumb as a bag of hammers. Big MENSA chapter there at 'ol Troy State. And he was another top 10-15 pick....along with Maybin and Whitner. Marv....his days at GM set this franchise back 10 years. I just can't believe they re-upped him when there were so many other CB options out there. Well ,if nothing else he's good for a laugh when they put him on camera. Use the word "Malicious" in a sentence, Loedis. "Umm-um, these cookies is malicious".

14 years of stupidity
17 million vs 20 over 4 years ............ now I feel better, NOT! Combined with the lost of Levitre this signals the status quo of "stupid is as stupid does" still rules the Buffalo Bill's. Thanks for saving me ticket cost for the upcoming season.

"WOW"
You have got to be kidding me. A top draft pick that has basically been a bust at the position he was drafted for. If this is any indication of what the team value's certain players at we are headed for at least 7 more years of ineptitude. Just enough to kill the franchise before the moving clause!
