Welker signs with Broncos, leaves Patriots

(WGR 550) -- From one Hall of Fame quarterback to another, wide receiver Wes Welker will be moving along. Welker has signed with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, team president John Elway announced on Wednesday.

It's a two-year deal according to the team, which takes Welker out of the AFC East from Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Welker has spent the past six seasons with New England, eclipsing 100 catches five different years.

Poised to become an unrestricted free agent in 2012, the Patriots assigned the franchise tag to Welker to avoid losing him for nothing. One year later, that fate is sealed with his two-year deal with Denver.

Welker joins an already potent receiving duo of Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, who saw their statistics amplified in 2012 with the addition of Manning. He'll become the slot receiver, having been one of the most feared at that position throughout his tenure in New England.

The contract has been revealed by multiple reports as a two-year deal worth $12 million total. According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe, the Patriots lone offer was for two years and $10 million with incentives.

Couldn't be Happier
No more safety blanket for Tommy. He was Brady's relief valve. This could be the unravelling of the Pats. I think Welker was that big a part of that team.

Bills DBs breathe sigh of relief
no more 200 yd days from Wes v the Bills. God forbid WE sign him, right Buddy!!! I know I know, hes too short. Just like Russell Wilson.

Re: Couldn't be Happier
The Bills still won't beat the Pat's. Another receiver missed by Nix the Bills could have used by the way.

Why not Buffalo?
FIRE NIX!!!

Brady Still
Will carve the almighty Bills. He could throw to a cardboard box and still make it work. Unraveling...in your mind only

Good....
at least New England does not have him any more.

6M per year?
Couldn't the Bills have afforded that? If you're hell bent on a new QB, give him some weapons. Omg... I should stop hoping for Greg Jennings right?

Brady Still.......Whatever
And thats why Matt Cassell walked off the bench without preperation and put together a 4000 yard season, back to back 400 yd games(something Brady had not done)and fooled KC into thinking he was a diamond in the rough when he was actually a terd on a silver platter. Do you not understand the concept of a system in New England. An offensive line that gives ungodly time in the pocket and one of the most slippery Wr's thats ever played the game. Sounds like a formula for success for most QB's. I'm sure Manning will love this new option.

Re: Brady still
Agreed. The signing of Amendola will fill that void. And its not just the Bills, Brady makes any reciever look like an all-pro, Amendola will still go for 200 on us just like Wes did.

glad he is gone
we never had anyone and i mean anyone that could cover him

This is why you need a QB.
If you have a QB you will attract a reciever. I dont understand why Buffalo lets go of Fitzpatrick , but weeks before signed T. Jackson... a guy that hasnt even played a game yet? Mind Boggling :/

the pats will...
.... just go sign 2 more all pro tight ends. We can't defend them either. I think they like tight ends because Brady likes big men.

While other teams get better
The Bills get worse. I can not stand having to root for my home town team the Bills. This team will never make the playoffs as long as Ralph still owns the team.

@this is why you need a QB
Based on most of your comments on here, I would have to imagine you find tieing your shoe "Mind Boggling".
