I don't think this should be much of a shock to anyone, but I want to write it down nonetheless.
The Bills are rebuilding. You know what usually happens when you rebuild? You lose more than you win, often by a lot. Any chance you're thinking that the Bills are going to be really good and end their 13 season playoff drought probably is the result of you ignoring many things.
Let us take a look at the rundown...
New coach
New offense
New quarterback
Two or more new receivers
Tight end coming off ACL surgery, so, new tight end?
New left guard
Excuse me while I take a breath, because that's just the offense.
On defense, we've got a new coach, so obviously a new system, a couple of new linebackers, a new strong safety, maybe another new starting cornerback and perhaps even a new position for Mario Williams due to the new system.
That's an awful lot of change. So let me ask you a question. What are the chances that the Bills at least adequately fill all of those holes through free agency and the draft while teaching the holdovers how to effectively play the new offense and defense?
Come on. That a lot to ask, I think. Sure, the Bills could strike gold and draft this years version of Russell Wilson and win lots of games while we all go bananas. Getting struck by quarterback lightning would change everything and I'm not saying there's no chance of that happening because it could.
I just think it's much more likely that whatever the Bills do at quarterback, there are just too many holes to fill and new stuff to learn for them do anything but be pretty bad in 2013. Thinking this way has me less worried about the Bills finding their long term franchise quarterback in this draft. I still want them to pick one. I don't need it to be at #8 overall. I'd prefer they grab another need, maybe wide receiver, and wait until pick #41 to try for a quarterback.
If that doesn't work out, guess what? My money is on them having a great look at picking near the top again in 2014 and getting their quarterback then.
Rebuilding usually takes more than one year. Especially if you don't get to pick Andrew Luck or RG111.
Sellin out the Ralph..."Rebuilding" has to happen. This is just the reality of the situation. At least they aren't trying to sell us false hope....AGAIN

Your column made my decision not to renew my NFL Sunday Ticket (just to watch the Bills) a whole lot easier! I figure - why pay out over $300 just to watch them lose more than they win. If by any chance they do start winning, I'll wait until ESPNputs them on the air!

We Are Buffalo Fans
We are Buffalo fans. We begin every season with the "we are still rebuilding, we aren't expecting to win the Super Bowl". Then, something happens (like we win a couple games or sign a big free agent) and we all forget that and expect the Bills to win the Super Bowl, and then get disappointed when they don't.

I think that if we do not see good solid picks in the draft then this marriage is over. You will lose more fans than last year. It's all on you One Bills Drive.

QB
I'm all for not drafting a QB in rounds 1-4 & filling some of the huge holes on both sides of the ball (LB, WR, OL & CB). Rounds 1-4 should be best available player that fills a need other than QB. Let Tavaris handle the QB duties at least for this year. He wouldn't be any worse than Fitz or a rookie QB & he could quite possible be above average. Pick up a serviceable backup QB in FA and wait until 2014 to draft a franchise QB. At most, take a flyer on a mid round QB in the draft (round 5-6).

Starting to think Nix will draft 2 of the higher rated Qbs for a training camp shoot out. He has no pro quaterback in house, just bodies. I can't see him again putting the franchise eqqs in one basket. When I pay for the seat I assume the team expects to entertaine me with much more than 3 and out for 4 qters. Sounds like if Fitz had agreed to the 3 mill a year He would of been the starter, again. So 6-10 must of been acceptable some where.
Someone needs to get off the phone and take charge over there.

What's the likelihood the Bills or any team, find their
franchise QB in 2nd or 3rd round? I know all about Wilson, Kapernick and Brady. But what does history tell us? Most great QBs are drafted at the top of round 1. Not an opinion just a fact. Play Tarvaris Jackson every snap and hopefully pick 1st or 2nd in 2014

Gee, Bulldog, the obvious doesn't get by you, does it? What tipped you off, new (first time NFL)head coach, two new coordinators, new system, half a dozen starters getting whacked or leaving via FA over the last several weeks, prospect of a rookie QB, same redneck GM?

Rebuilding will take LONGER here simply because of....
Not expecting much for this year...aside from evidence that the coach knows how to coach an NFL franchise and MAYBE finding the QB for the future if we happen to draft one. But I'd expect a clear improvement from Marrone year 1 to Marrone year 2.
