Contract details on Bills' Lawson

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- On Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills made their first splash in to the unrestricted free agent market by signing linebacker Manny Lawson to a four-year deal. One day later, WGR Sports Radio 550 has obtained the details of the contract through a league source.

The contract will be worth a total of $12 million over the four years. That includes a $3 million signing bonus, matching $500,000 roster bonuses in 2014 and 2015, a $250,000 roster bonus in 2016 and a $50,000 workout bonus for all four seasons. His base salaries will be $1.6 million in 2013, $1.8 million in 2014, $1.8 million in 2015 and $2.35 million in 2016.

His contract will carry cap hits of $2.4 million this year, $3.1 million in both 2014 and 2015, and $3.4 million in 2016 which once again equals out to the $12 million total.
 
According to WGR's calculations, the Lawson signing leaves the Bills approximately $23.4 million under the 2013 salary cap. The money needed to sign their 2013 draft picks has not been taken out of that total.

Not Good Enough
Who is this guy? Another BONE HEAD move by BUDDY HICKS!! I want an all-star team!!! I want can't misses!!! I have divorced myself from reality. Get a job and leave your negative mentality off this site. No wonder your unemployed. Sounds like your intoxicated or on medication. Lawson is a good linebacker who played with Mario in college. He's had productive seasons, but seem to be used in the wrong scheme for his talents. I'm sure Pettite will cure that problem.

I canceled my season tickets yesterday. They are one of the least talented teams in the league. Worse yet, they are sitting on 20mil and can't find a way to bring more talent to this underwhelming roster? You've got to be kidding me. I'm out. I'm not willing spend any more money on this team right now.

Know what you're talking about before you speak. He's not a marquee name, but Manny is the exact guy we've been all clamoring for being someone that is fast enough (4.43 40 speed), tackles well and has excellent cover ability. At 6'5" 240 he's plenty tall and plenty fast enough to match up with the likes of Gronk. He's a much better 3-4 LB and the Bengals we're a 4-3 so when the obtained him, it wasn't a good match. And for those comparing him to Kawika Mitchell, that's an awful comparison. We should be welcoming a talent like this, not talking him out of town or the starter roster before he gets to show what he's worth. WGR... you should also be welcoming a player like this. It's absurb you're calling him backup material already.

It obvious that the Bills are "rebuilding" so I don't expect them to really do anything to make themselves competitive in 2013. Most moves will look to the future. With that said I don't understand the Fitz move which shifted morecap $$ to 2014. On second thought maybe they're just going cheap as usual.

So odd to me
Whenever I see a reference to Buddy Nix being a hillbilly, redneck, or hick - I have to wonder whether the person making the comment has ever looked around western NY for a minute. Blue collar area, hunting, fishing, etc. Not exactly the "city" atomosphere. Still, I love it!
