In their search for a new starting quarterback, the Buffalo Bills will get an extended look at West Virginia's Geno Smith. After witnessing Smith's pro day on the campus of West Virginia University, the Bills conducted a private workout with the quarterback Friday at an unknown location.
Smith is widely regarded by analysts as the top quarterback available in the 2013 NFL Draft, and could be on the board when the Bills are on the clock with the eighth overall selection. The 6-foot-2, 218-pound passer stormed on to the draft scene with his video game-esque statistics he accrued during certain games over the 2012 season.
Smith completed 71.2-percent of his passes this season for a grand total of 4,198 yards, 42 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 13 games played. Although mobile enough to run for a high average, the quarterback only gained 167 yards and two touchdowns on 69 total carries.
In addition to the Bills, the Jaguars (No. 2), Raiders (No. 3), Eagles (No. 4) and Browns (No. 6) have all shown, or have been rumored to have interest in Smith's services. Even the Kansas City Chiefs, who own the top pick overall, have publicly stated that they haven't ruled out the idea of drafting Smith.
Among the quarterbacks at the 2013 NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis, he ran the fastest 40-yard dash (4.56 seconds), the longest broad jump (124 inches) and was only half-an-inch behind the top vertical jump (33.5 inches).
The private workout does not count as one of the Bills' 30 allowed official visits for the draft season, because it will not be held at team facilities. The team confirmed that on their official website.
Smith is one of six or seven draft eligibile quarterbacks that will be put through a private workout with the team. GM Buddy Nix confirmed to John Kryk of the Toronto Sun that USC's Matt Barkley would be another participating in a private workout, in addition to the rest.
BARCLAY!!! Where are the free agent signings, just to add or is Nix planning on the cheap and losing again???

LETS HOPE NOT!
Ask the WVU fans what they think? Does anyone watch College Football around here? Much better prospects to choose from.

NFL combine?
Are we trying to get a track man or NFL caliber QB that can win games for your team?
03/22/2013 12:32PM
He wont be there at 8
They must trade up.
03/22/2013 12:39PM
Buddy Nix and the (analysts)?
Dont listen to them this time, Buddy. So far, they haven't helped the Bills with analizing players for our team. They are wrong more then 50% of the time.

Geno in a Bills Uniform?
Geno might be a good fit for Doug Marrone's system, but what about Ryan Nassib? He knows how Doug works and has the smarts to do the job (OK,so did Fitz.......HOWEVER)

learn something every day
Never knew Bills or any other team were limited to 30 visits

Re: Geno in a Bills Uniform
Barkley is better. Get a grip moron. I want a guy that is a leader and Barkley provides that.
03/22/2013 10:46PM
Barkley is a better pick
I saw Barkley more than once live his senior year in High School...followed his collage years....guy head on this kid. cool under pressure and can make all the throw. If we pass on him Nix's should be out the door that night

Don't need another California Dreamer
Don't want Barkley. Geno Smith is the only QB we should consider in the 1st. If he's not available then go get Patterson a play making WR and get one of the QBs left in the 3rd round. Nassib, Wilson, or Manuel. We also need OL, but free agency could cure that problem. Still fuming over NIX's knuckelhead signing of McKelvin at that price when there are still very good corner at Bargin prices. At least he is a good returner.

Bring in QB- Peter Lalich for a try out.
Go after him now! The secret is out! Some say the best of this years crop of QBs? Size 6'6" 245lb, rocket arm, accurate passer, football savy, very talented athlete.
03/23/2013 11:02AM
Any QB drafted will demand a trade
They don't want to play for this joke of an organization.

Re: Geno in a Bills Uniform
Barkley... a leader?????? What??? He lead a super talented team to mediocrity. If that is what you want then he is your man.
03/23/2013 6:16PM
QB? Really?
The Bills could have played Ralph Wilson at QB for the last 12 years, and it wouldn't have made any difference. Now we have to watch a college staff and a college QB, and college receivers, and college linebackers that might or might not be any good in the NFL. So either way, us Bills fans will be waiting years for these players to develop. ( AGAIN)
Every mistake this team makes is made by Buddy Nix, yet he is here for another try at another 3 year rebuilding plan. I can't be the only one who sees this team is getting worse and worse by the year. What next?
03/24/2013 12:37PM
Does it really matter?
I'm beyond the point of caring about what this garbage irrelevant bottom feeding team does. The Bills are terrible and I'm through with them. I'm latching onto the NY Giants as my new team. It doesn't matter who the Bills draft they are looking 2-14 in the face.

Who is Peter Lalich? Mystery QB or for real?
His qualifications for QB sound to good to be true. Is he coming for a try out?
03/25/2013 11:02AM
peter lalich
is definitely worth taking a shot at with a late pick. low risk with potential for a very high reward.

soldify the defense in the first round
get a middle linebacker..ogletree is the best at least that will be settled...none of these quarterbacks are going to be great ones anyways
