Logic would seem to suggest the Bills will take quarterback Ryan Nassib in next week’s draft but the Syracuse product isn’t so sure. Nassib’s head coach with the Orange and his offensive coordinator moved on from Syracuse to Buffalo but their starting QB the last three seasons could go elsewhere.
Nassib was a guest on the WGR morning show on Thursday and was asked if he has a gut feeling about where he will end up. “To be honest with you, I thought I had a gut feeling but I really don’t” Nassib said. “This whole process has been so crazy that you think one thing one day and the next day, you’re like ‘wait a second what just happened’ so I have no idea.”
Nassib said that gut feeling was the Bills because of the strong relationship he has with now Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone and Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. “If I had the opportunity to continue my career with them, it would be just absolutely awesome” Nassib told WGR.
Nassib said he thinks he’ll be drafted either at end of round one or in round two. Besides the Bills, other teams showing the most interest in the Pennsylvania native are the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns.
If the Bills are seriously interested and they don’t get Nassib in round one, they will probably miss out. Buffalo’s second round selection is 41st overall. The Jags are at 33, Philadelphia is at 35, Arizona has the 38th pick and the Jets have the 39th selection.
While excited to be in the NFL, Nassib admitted he’ll be disappointed if the Bills don’t call his name out. “Just because of how close a relationship we have” Nassib said. “I’ve been with Coach Hackett every day for the last three years. We’re almost like family, me and him. He’s kind of like my older brother. But at the end of the day it is a business and I understand.”
