Bills sign LB Alonso to rookie deal

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- On Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills continued to get closer to having all of their selections from the 2013 NFL Draft under contract. The team announced that they've signed second-round linebacker Kiko Alonso to his rookie deal.

Alonso is the sixth draft pick to sign his inaugural deal with the Bills, joining Marquise Goodwin, Duke Williams, Johnathan Meeks, Dustin Hopkins and Chris Gragg. Only first-round pick EJ Manuel and fellow second-round pick Robert Woods have yet to sign their initial four-year contracts in to the league.

Alonso, the 46th overall pick in 2013, is thought to be a candidate to start at middle linebacker after the Bills traded away third-year player Kelvin Sheppard to the Indianapolis Colts just after the draft ended. The former Oregon player would also slot in to an inside linebacker role when the team goes looks that feature the 3-4 defensive scheme.

Alonso had 81 total tackles in 12 games for the Ducks in 2012, and was named the Rose Bowl defensive player of the game in Oregon's 45-38 win over Wisconsin.
