(WGR 550) -- With the National Football League continuing to get closer to the restart of full-time football in late July, the league officially announced key dates for the 2014 off-season. The most noticeable change revolves around the 2014 NFL Draft, as it finds itself falling outside of April for the first time since 1985.
The annual selection process will take place on Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10. The format of the three days will stay the same since the initial day went to primetime. May 8 will hold the first round, May 9 will feature rounds two and three, and May 10 will close out the draft with rounds four, five, six and seven.
This will be the first time the first round starts in the month of May since the 1984 NFL Draft, and will also be the latest the draft has ever started in league history.
The league also announced the NFL Scouting Combine will take place from Tuesday, February 18 through Tuesday, February 25. It will once again serve as the hub for the league as teams and players approach the start of the new league year and unrestricted free agency. That period will begin on Tuesday, March 11.
