Speedway In Fort Erie Gets Green Flag

Auto racing fans on both sides of the border are one step closer to seeing the green flag wave at a proposed motorsports facility in Fort Erie, Ontario.

The Ontario Municpal Board dismissed a final appeal against the Canadian Motor Speedway (CMS) on Thursday and now speedway organizers can begin construction on a 820-acre parcel of land alongside the QEW.  When completed CMS will feature a one-mile oval designed by NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon, as well as a 2.6 mile road course.

The motorsports facility will now enter a final site plan approval before holding an official groundbreaking on a date yet to be determined.

CMS Vice President, Phil Denyes, appeared on WGR's Fast Track back in March and said construction would take about 18 months to complete once ground is broken.
