The biggest splash of Day 1 of NHL Free Agency turned out to be a trade. The Ottawa Senators acquired Anaheim Ducks forward Bobby Ryan in exchange for young forwards Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen and a 2014 first-round draft pick.
Ryan has two years left on a 5-year, $25 million deal. He was selected with the No. 2 pick by Anaheim in the 2005 draft. He has combined for 289 points (147 goals, 142 assists) in 378 career games.
As for the return, Solfverberg is 22-years-old and has played just 12 NHL games. Noesen is still in the OHL.
The Senators will use Ryan to replace the hole in their top six left by Daniel Alfredsson signing with Detroit.
