Murray Wins at Wimbledon

Andy Murray ended a 77-year drought, after he defeated Novak Djokovic in the Men’s Final at Wimbledon.  The win makes him the first British male crowned at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.

The 26-year-old beat Djokovic in three straight sets  6-4 7-5 and 6-4. Overcoming some close calls, Murray went down 4-1 in the second set to Djokovic before coming back to win it 7-5.  He had a 40-0 lead in the final game of the 3rd set before allowing Djokovic to come back to bring it back to deuce.  They went to a 4th deuce before Murray finally won his first Wimbledon championship.

Murray’s victory is his second major title, as he won the U.S. Open in 2012.  He also won a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics.
