Buffalo Business Report - Tuesday, July 16th 2013

The Erie County Industrial Development Agency approved a tax abatement plan for the former Sheehan Hospital.  That will facilitate the move of a Time Warner Cable call center to the complex now known as Compass East.  The ECIDA also approved tax abatements for a move of Frey the Wheelman from downtown Buffalo to 380 Dick Road in Cheektowaga.  In another matter, the ECIDA has tabbed Paragon Advertising to help with a rebranding effort that may bring a name change with it.  Paragon has Mighty Taco among its client base locally.
Boosted by a $4.5 million capital grant from the state, visual effects company Empire Visual Effects will open at the Tri-Main Center in a partnership with Daemen College.

Gift-ology will open later this month at the Walden Galleria near Macy's on the upper level.

Excelsior Orthopaedics and Kenmore Mercy Hospital have collaborated on a new technique for a hip replacement procedure.  A series of operations were completed yesterday using a surgeon controlled robotic arm system.
