Bills' Marrone provides lengthy injury update

Pittsford, NY (WGR 550)  -- Through the first three days of training camp, there weren't many injuries for the Buffalo Bills. Two days into the padded portion of training camp practices, head coach Doug Marrone let reporters in on all the ailments of his team along with specifics.

By now, most fans know the outlook on Mario Williams' sore left foot. However, some of the depth names on the roster have also suffered injuries.

The most notable absence on Wednesday was tight end Scott Chandler, who is still on his way back from a torn ACL suffered last December. According to Marrone, the tight end has built in rest days throughout camp so that way they don't bite off more than his knee can proverbially chew.

Chandler was going through receiving drills on Tuesday when he had to come off the field with a trainer, and immediately got on the exercise bike. The head coach said if it doesn't feel strong enough, they'd rather err on the side of caution. Chandler, along with Williams, was dressed in full pads, but instead did drills along the sideline with a member of the strength & conditioning staff.

Cornerback Justin Rogers, who was getting first-team reps at left cornerback through the first two practices, injured his right hamstring and will be out for a "short period of time" according to Marrone. Rogers was the only Bills player on the active roster not in full pads.

Reserve wide receiver Kevin Elliott had to be carted off on Wednesday morning due to an injury. Elliott made a spectacular diving catch with Stephon Gilmore draped all over him, and immediately was escorted off the field by trainers.

He was doubled over in pain, and then sat on the ground before the cart ultimately took him away. The head coach said Elliott's injury is to his right shoulder.

The only other injuries to this point have been to a pair of third-string running backs. Both Tashard Choice and Zach Brown were limited on Wednesday due to a left ankle injury. Undrafted rookies Kendall Gaskins and Drew Smith saw time during practice in Choice and Brown's absences.

At first there was concern that Marcell Dareus might not be in favor with the new coaching staff due to his limited repetitions with the first team through the first two days of training camp. Dareus revealed to WGR that he was getting over a viral illness when he first got to camp, and that he's now fully healthy.

The former third overall pick received the most first-team repetitions on Wednesday than any other day, likely proving his point.

The Bills will have Thursday off to attempt to heal any injuries that have occurred. The team will resume practice Friday morning at 8 am.
