Buffalo Drops Opener to Ohio State 40-20



The Buffalo Bulls fought to the bitter end on opening day, but ended up on the losing side of a 40-20 Ohio State victory.

Quarterback Joe Licata had a decent outing for the Bulls, completing 19 of 32 passes for 187 yards two touchdowns and an interception.   His favorite weapon was wide-out Alex Neutz, who had nine catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Buckeyes’ Running back Jordan Hall ran all over the Bulls, as he rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.  He also caught three passes for 14 yards.

Ohio State got things rolling early, with three touchdowns in the first quarter.  The Bulls answered back with two consecutive scores in the second quarter, including an Interception-return TD by Bulls stand-out linebacker Khalil Mack. However, The Buckeyes would score the final touchdown of the first half, giving them a 30-13 lead at halftime.

At the start of the third quarter, Buffalo got on the board after Licata hooked up with Neutz for a 10-yard touchdown.  Ohio State answered back with a touchdown late in the third quarter, and another one early in the fourth.  The Buckeyes’ would then run the clock out to secure the win.

The Associated Press reported that the No. 2 Buckeyes paid non-conference foes $3.1 million, which includes one million to the University of Buffalo. Covers.com gave the spread to Ohio State (-34.5) going into the game. 

Buffalo hopes to turn things around when they go on the road to take on Baylor next Saturday, September 7.  Kick-off is set for 3:30 PM.
