Bulls taking on No.23 Baylor this weekend

The UB football team has a tough task on its slate this weekend as it travels to Waco, Texas to take on another ranked opponent.

After last weekend’s loss at the hands of No. 2 Ohio State, the Bulls (0-1) are gearing up to take on No. 23 Baylor (1-0).

Baylor is coming off a convincing 69-3 win over Wofford that included a total of 692 yards of offense and a school record 69 points. The previous record was set vs. Northwestern State in 2009.

Buffalo’s defense allowed 460 total yards of offense against the Buckeyes – 261 of which came on the ground.

It took the Bulls the entire first quarter to get settled in before they were able to put points on the board. They outscored the Buckeyes 20-17 over the final three quarters.

The Bulls will have to find a way to eliminate early game mistakes in order to have a legitimate shot at being competitive in the game.

Key Matchup: UB’s defense against Baylor’s high-powered offense

Baylor’s offense is comprised of a run-pass combination. They tend to spread teams out and play them fast.

For the past two seasons, the Bears have had the No.2 ranked offense in the country in terms of total yards gained.

The Bulls will have to find a way early on to slow down the Bears’ explosive backfield. Lache Seastrunk racked up 1,012 yards and seven TDs on 131 carries, with nine receptions for 107 yards and one TD last season. He is an All-America Candidate, Maxwell Award candidate, Walter Camp Award candidate and Doak Walker Award candidate.

The Bulls will have their hands full with Seastrunk’s ability as a dual threat running back.

Senior linebacker Khalil Mack had arguably one of his best games in a UB football uniform last weekend against Ohio State. Mack was an unstoppable force, finishing the game with 9 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception for a touchdown.

Buffalo will need another game like this from Mack, in order to have a chance at winning.

He said it:

“[The linebackers] group right there, we are going to lean very heavily on their leadership and playmaking ability consistently. It will help us become a better defense.” – Bulls head coach Jeff Quinn-

Prediction:

This is going to be another tough game for the Bulls. Last week; the defense allowed Braxton Miller to complete 15 of 22 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Hall had 21 rushes for 153 yards and a touchdown for the Buckeyes. With a fast paced, up-tempo offense in Baylor - and one of the nations most explosives runners in Seastrunk - the Bulls will be unable to keep up.
