Five Bills sit out Thursday's practice

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- Approaching their second contest of the season, the Buffalo Bills got back to work on the practice squad without any surprises on the injury report. For the second straight day, the Bills had five players on the non-participant list.

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore (wrist), left guard Doug Legursky (knee), wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (hand), cornerback Ron Brooks (foot) and kicker Dustin Hopkins (right groin) all didn't get any work in during Thursday's session. Gilmore, Legursky, Goodwin and Brooks have already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Head coach Doug Marrone told reporters that he expects Hopkins, the team's rookie kicker, to start getting some work in later this week. His status for Sunday is still up in the air, meaning Dan Carpenter will resume kicking duties unless Hopkins is medically cleared to play.

For the fifth straight practice, safety Jairus Byrd was a limited participant due to his plantar fasciitis in both feet. His status for Sunday's contest will be announced on Friday after practice. Byrd was listed as 'doubtful' against the New England Patriots in Week 1.

The Bills get back on the practice field Friday morning at 11 am.
