Bulls ready for familiar foe

After a week long hiatus, the UB football team returns to the field to take on the American Athletic Conference’s UConn (0-2).

The Bulls (1-2) are very familiar with the Huskies, having played them twelve times in the last 15 years.

Last season, Buffalo traveled to UConn and were outscored for three straight quarters before a quick touchdown and onside kick recovery set them up for a potential game-tying touchdown.

However, Buffalo’s early mistakes would cost them a victory as they fell 24-17.

The Huskies are coming off a near upset at No. 18 Michigan (4-0), a game they lost on a 21- yard field goal with 4:36 left to play in the fourth quarter.

Buffalo has not played since its 26-23 five overtime victory on Sept. 14 over Stony Brook.

Key Matchup: Bulls’ rushing offense vs. UConn’s Rush defense

Last weekend, the Bulls were without senior running back Branden Oliver, who was held out for precautionary reasons.

However, junior running back Anthone Taylor filled in nicely for Buffalo, rushing for 118 yards on 24 carries.

With Oliver returning to the field and Taylor sharing the carries, it will be interesting to see how they matchup against  linebacker Yawin Smallwood and the rest of the UConn defense.

He said what: “I think it’s going to be a tremendous matchup for us to be able to see where we are at this point. We’ve set a lot of goals in our program and this game is an important one for us to achieve that.”

Branden Oliver will have a breakout game for in his return to the field helping the Bulls stay within striking distance of the Huskies.

However, there is still the question of whether or not Buffalo can string together a four quarter performance against an opponent. UConn will sneak by with a win giving Paul Pasqualoni his first win of the season.
