Hurricanes Blank Sabres 1-0

The Sabres closed out the preseason on Friday night with a 1-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Ryan Miller stopped 29 shots in the loss while Cam Ward came up with the 18-save shutout.

The only goal of the evening came early in the second period when Patrick Dwyer popped a shorthanded goal past Miller. Ryan Murphy was in the penalty box, serving a hooking penalty, but it was Carolina finding the net to go up 1-0. The Dwyer goal proved to be the only blemish for Miller. Ward made 18 saves, including only four in the first period and three in the second, for the Hurricanes in the win.

The Sabres open the 2013-2014 regular season Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena against the Detroit Red Wings at 8 p.m. Hear all the action on WGR 550 with Rick Jeanneret and Rob Ray.
