Bills sign two to roster, add QB to P-Squad

(WGR 550) -- The Buffalo Bills are making some changes to the depth of their roster. The team announced on Tuesday afternoon that they've signed linebacker Ty Powell and promoted cornerback Brandon Smith off the practice squad to the active roster.

Powell was on the practice squad of the New York Giants after being selected in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He's a 6-foot-2, 249-pound linebacker that played college football at Harding.

Smith has spent the past few weeks on the Bills practice squad. He signed with the team in early September after being released by the Green Bay Packers on cutdown day. He's a 6-foot-1, 205-pound cornerback that entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

To make room, the Bills have released linebacker Marcus Dowtin and cornerback Johnny Adams from the 53-man roster.

Having one empty spot on their practice squad, the Bills have filled the vacancy left by quarterback Thad Lewis with another quarterback. Former Pittsburgh Steelers signal caller Dennis Dixon has agreed to join Buffalo's scout team. He worked out for the team over the weekend after the injury to EJ Manuel.

The Bills get back on the practice field on Wednesday in Orchard Park.
