Since the Sabres approach to this season is "its all about the future", it seems like a good time to find out what some possible future Sabres are doing for their respective clubs.
A great way to keep up on players in the organization is to check out the web site "Sabresprospects.com" which is run by Kris Baker who is a regular guest on Sabres Hockey Hotline.
Baker has a weekly review of players from juniors to the NCAA, the USHL and even Europe.
Western New York native Justin Bailey, who was taken by the Sabres in the second round of last June's draft, is playing for the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. Bailey has registered points in four of the Rangers seven games and has three goals to go along with three assists.
There are a number of other players from the Class of 13 who are off to good starts. Third round pick Nick Baptiste has nine goals and 13 points in his first nine games with the Sudbury Wolves, also in the OHL.
Staying with the OHL, seventh round pick Eric Locke is the captain of the Saginaw Gears. After getting a long look in training camp with the Rochester Americans, Locke has produced three goals and five assists in his first four games.
Gears teammate Justin Kea(a third round pick in 2012) is tied for the team lead with nine points in 10 games.
Another 2013 second rounder, J.T. Compher is playing his freshman season at Michigan. He recorded two assists in his debut game for the 11th ranked Wolverines and is getting time at the point on the first power play unit.
The third of the three second round picks, Connor Hurley, is playing for Muskegon in the United States Hockey League and is leading the club in scoring with seven points in seven games. Hurley, who has committed to play collegiately at Notre Dame, will also play for Team USA at next month's World Junior A Challenge.
2013 fifth rounder Gustav Possler is playing for MODO in the Swiss Elite League and is their leading scorer with eight goals and 10 points.
Corey Pronman of Hockeyprospectus.com says Possler flew under the radar at the draft but has worked his way up to the top line with MODO and is a combination of speed, skill, offensive instincts and finishing skills
