After outscoring its last five opponents 174-52, the Buffalo football team is on the road in Kent, Ohio to take on a familiar Mid-American Conference rival.
Coming off a 32-3 win over UMass (1-6,1-2 MAC) on Saturday, the Bulls (5-2, 3-0 MAC) will try to extend their winning streak to six games as they travel to Kent, Ohio to take on the Golden Flashes (2-6, 1-3 MAC).
Last season, Kent State defeated Buffalo 23-7 at UB Stadium behind the legs of RB/WR Dri Archer, who amassed 159 all-purpose yards.
Kent State is coming off a 38-21 loss to Southern Alabama (3-3, 1-1 Sun Belt) and is currently on a three-game losing streak and giving up 30.9 points per game.
Buffalo is currently ranked 42nd in FBS in points against and averaging 26.9 points per game.
Key matchup: Buffalo’s Defense vs. Dri Archer
In last weekend’s loss to Southern Alabama, Dri Archer led the way for the Golden Flashes with 10 rushes for 114 yards and a touchdown.
So far this season, Archer has rushed for 219 yards and touchdown while snagging 15 receptions for 231 yards and five touchdowns.
With the Bulls ranked 42nd in the FBS in points against (23.1) and 2nd in the MAC in total defense— allowing 1,027 yards rushing ,1,652 passing yards and 19 touchdowns—it will be interesting to see how the Bulls can contain the explosive Archer.
He said it:
“We know it’s an important game for us. It’s the only game that we’re focused on. We know they have a tremendous player in Dri Archer, the fastest person in the [conference]. We’re very aware of their big running back [Trayion] Durham. They do a very good job of featuring him and Dri. We’re not sure where their quarterback is at but we will be prepared for both [of them].” Head coach Jeff Quinn on the Kent State offense.
The Bulls have been playing great football as of late on both sides of the ball.
Senior running back Branden Oliver carried the ball for a record 43 times and amassed 216 yards and a touchdown en route to last weekend's win over UMass, while senior linebacker Khalil Mack continued to create problems for opposing teams offenses with a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Look for the Bulls to continue to their winning streak behind a strong defense and solid offense.
