The Lightning scored two goals in the span of 1:46 late in the third period, giving Tampa Bay a 3-2 win over the Sabres (2-10-1) on Saturday. Ryan Miller made 36 saves in the loss.
Tampa Bay grabbed the first-period lead with a power play goal by Tyler Johnson, snapping a Valtteri Filppula rebound into the open net. Tyler Myers couldn't control the bouncing puck following Filppula's shot, but Johnson was able to scoop it up, putting the Lightning up 1-0. Brian Flynn's second of the season tied it at 12:58 of the middle frame.
Thomas Vanek, taking a backhand pass from Macus Foligno, put Buffalo ahead at 12:46 of the final period. Vanek ripped a shot into the upper corner of the net, giving the Sabres a 2-1 lead. It wouldn't last long, thanks to Martin St. Louis. Ryan Miller caught a piece of St. Louis' shot, but the puck landed in the net. Just 1:46 later, Tampa Bay regained the lead for good when Ondrej Palat stuffed a loose puck past Miller.
On Monday, Lindy Ruff returns to First Niagara Center for the first time since February as head coach of the Stars. Buffalo and Dallas will face off at 7 p.m. on WGR 550.
