Moulson Shines, Stars Top Sabres 4-3

Wearing the number of the man he was traded for, Matt Moulson made an immediate impact for the Sabres on Monday with a pair of goals, however Buffalo (2-11-1) fell to Lindy Ruff and the Dallas Stars 4-3.

The game marked Ruff's first visit to the First Niagara Center since his departure in February. The longtime Buffalo head coach was honored during the first television timeout of the opening period with a video montage and standing ovation.

Buffalo's newest acquisition wasted little time in finding the net. Moulson scored on his second shift as a Sabre and just 27 seconds after Dallas took the early 1-0 lead. His rocket from the slot beat Kari Lehtonen glove side and tied the score 1-1 at 3:26 of the first.

Goals by Alex Goligoski and Tyler Seguin, however, put the Stars ahead 3-1 after the opening period. Goligoski beat Miller with a wrist shot near the top of the faceoff circle on the power play, a four-minute man advantage for Dallas after Steve Ott took a slashing call followed by unsportsmanlike conduct. Only 1:12 later, Tyler Seguin popped his fifth of the year into the net, making it 3-1.

A turnover by Ville Leino led to the Stars' fourth goal of the evening, courtesy of Jamie Benn. Seguin stripped Leino of the puck and found Benn to put Dallas ahead 4-1 at 10:55 of the second. The Sabres cut the deficit in half on a Steve Ott power play goal. Mikhail Grigorenko whipped a cross-ice pass to a wide-open Ott and the Buffalo captain shoveled it home. Later in the period, Moulson's second of the evening pulled the Sabres within one. Parked in front of the Stars' crease, Moulson gained possession, switched to a backhand and flipped the puck over Lehtonen's glove while falling to the ice.

The Sabres are off until Thursday when they visit the New York Rangers for a 7:00 faceoff. Hear the play by play on WGR 550 and the Sabres Radio Network.

Are you planning to see Connor McDavid when he plays at FNC this season?
Absolutely. Its a chance to see a generational player in person
Yes and I'm going to see some games in Erie too
No. The Sabres probably won't get him so I don't need to see him
