Getzlaf, Ducks Hammer Sabres 6-2

Ryan Getzlaf notched his first career hat trick, with all three goals coming in the first period, and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Sabres on Friday 6-2. Mikhail Grigorenko responded to a two-game benching by scoring Buffalo's only two goals of the evening, his first two of the season.

A pair of power play goals in the game's first ten minutes staked Anaheim to the early 2-0 lead. Getzlaf got the scoring started just 2:11 into the game, slamming a Cam Fowler rebound past Ryan Miller. Later, with Cody McCormick serving two minutes for hooking, Fowler added a goal of his own, ripping a shot into the Buffalo net.

Just 3:33 later, Grigorenko cut the lead in half with his first goal of the season. The Buffalo forward collected his own rebound in front of the Anaheim net and flicked a shot past Frederik Andersen. The Ducks regained their two-goal lead about three minutes later on Getzlaf's second goal of the night, a rocket that beat Miller blocker-side in the top corner. Getzlaf capped off the opening-period hat trick with 20 seconds to play, backhanding a Corey Perry rebound around Miller's right pad.

Dustin Penner popped in a Perry rebound 4:53 into the second period for his fourth point of the night, making it 5-1 Anaheim. Grigorenko added his second of the game later in the period, wristing a pass from Corey Tropp over Andersen's blocker and into the net.

Andrew Cogliano put the Ducks back up by four late in the second. It would the final goal allowed for Miller, who started the third period on the bench having stopped 28 of 34 shots. Jhonas Enroth came up with 12 saves in the final frame. The line of Cody Hodgson, Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis didn't see the ice during the third period.
