Bills Win 37-14

Between the swirling winds and the swarming Bills defense, Geno Smith looked the part of a Rookie today as Buffalo defeated the New York Jets by a score of 37-14.

The wind dictated the style of play right from the start. Although they managed a couple first downs on their opening drive, the Jets were forced to punt, they also lost Quarterback Geno Smith for a small portion of the drive due to injury, but he returned and played the rest of the game. Buffalo then went 3 and out, and after a 33 yard pass from Smith to Santonio Holmes, Nick Folk had a chance to connect on a Field Goal from 48 yards out, but the wind forced it wide right. The teams exchanged punts, and the first quarter ended with the Bills in Jets territory after an EJ Manuel completion to Marquise Goodwin for a first down.

Continued was the ball control style of play. A lot of run plays and short completions. A third down saw Manuel incomplete a pass intended for Lee Smith, but it set up Dan Carpenter with a 40 yard field goal, and Buffalo struck first, up 3-0 with 12:44 left in the half. The momentum seemingly moved into the Bills' favor, as they stopped the Jets on third down for the fourth consecutive time, and after the punt they chewed up 7 minutes from the clock, and marched 68 yards for a touchdown after a 34 yard pass to TJ Graham for the score.

The Bills seemingly couldn't do anything wrong from that point on as Kyle Williams knocked the ball out of Smith's hands, and Manny Lawson recovered to give Buffalo the ball at the New York 5 yard line. After the goal line struggles of weeks' past, the Bills tried to put that myth to rest as Fullback Frank Summers pounded a 3 yard run in to make it 17-0. Geno Smith clearly looked like a rookie throughout the game, as Jairus Byrd picked him off immediately following the touchdown, setting up Dan Carpenter with another 40 plus yard field goal in the swirling winds, making the score 20-0 at the half.

The Bills opening drive of the 2nd half stalled out at their 43 yard line, and Punter Brian Moorman mishandled the ball resulting in a 1 yard punt and it gave the Jets great field position. It's Smith to Holmes again for the Jets to put them inside the Buffalo 5 yard line, and Chris Ivory runs in their first score of the game, but it was all Buffalo from there on out. Manuel hit Marquise Goodwin for a 43 yard touchdown, and Byrd picked off Smith again. Although the turnover resulted in no points, the punt pinned New York deep in their own territory, and Smith threw his 3rd interception - this one to Da'Norris Searcy - he took it all the way in for the score, giving Buffalo a 34-7 lead as they headed into the final 15 minutes.

The game was basically wrapped up by the 4th quarter. Matt Simms replaced Smith for the Jets, and they scored their first touchdown through the air, as Simms found Jeff Cumberland for the score, making it 34-14. After the score, Buffalo managed to eat up over five minutes of clock time and drive themselves down to the Jets 26 yard line where Carpenter connects on his 3rd Field Goal of the day, and that's the final score of the game.

The Bills will head into their bye week at 4-7, and their next game is December 1st as they host the Atlanta Falcons
