Two goals in the span of 23 seconds at the end of the 2nd period sealed Buffalo’s Fate in Montreal, as the Sabres fell to the Canadiens by a score of 3 to 2.
After a lackluster 1st period offensively that saw only nine total shots between the two teams, Brandon Prust put Montreal on the board first just 19 seconds into the 2nd Period. Buffalo then managed to tie things up as Christian Ehrhoff won an important battle in the corner to set up Tyler Ennis with a beautiful goal coming off the bench. Tied at 1 it went up until 2:16 left in the 2nd before Prust fed Tomas Plekanec with a one-timer, and 23 seconds after that Alex Galchenyuk scored to make it 3-1 heading into the 3rd period.
In the final frame the Sabres kept it close as a brilliant individual effort by Zemgus Girgensons against two defenders resulted in a goal to make it a one goal game, but it wasn't enough as the Canadiens held off heavy pressure at the end for a 3-2 final score.
The Sabres are now 6-22-2, their next game is Tuesday against the Senators at 7 from the First Niagara Center.
