Timely takeways help the Buffalo Bills pull out a 27-20 victory against the Jaguars
Two very different quarters in the first half for the Bills, despite an Aaron Williams interception on the Jaguars first drive, Buffalo went nowhere and had to settle for a Field Goal. After the Bills defense forced a three-and-out, Jags' Linebacker Geno Hayes picked off EJ Manuel, and Jacksonville tied it up at 3 with a Josh Scobee Field Goal.
Buffalo managed a couple first downs on their next possession, but Dan Carpenter missed from 54 yards out, which gave Jacksonville the ball at their 44 yard-line. Jaguars Quarterback Chad Henne took the team all the way inside the Bills red zone to start the second, and he found Ace Sanders for a touchdown, but it would be the last time Jacksonville would have the lead for the remainder of the game.
Manuel and company responded with a 9 play, 94-yard drive, highlighted by a touchdown pass to Robert Woods, his third touchdown reception of the season. The defense forced a 3 and out, and Manuel got it done with his legs as he scrambled for an 8-yard touchdown run to put the Bills up by 17 with 2:19 left in the 1st half.
Inside the two-minute warning, Henne completed a pass to Mike Brown, but Nickell Robey forced and recovered a fumble to give Buffalo a 10 point lead at the half, thanks to Carpenter's 40-yard Field Goal with time expiring.
Unfortunately for Buffalo, that momentum from the 2nd quarter didn't exactly carry into the 3rd. The offense didn't get anything going to start the 2nd half, and as they punted, Da'Norris Searcy got flagged for a 15-yard penalty to give Jacksonville the ball at their own 48-yard line. Former Michigan Quarterback Denard Robinson found a crease through the middle and almost scored, but he coughed up the football at the 1-yard line and it went out of the end zone to give the Bills a touchback. The remainder of the quarter was very slow and methodical, as Josh Scobee's Field Goal was the lone score of the frame, and Jacksonville had possession heading into the 4th after Manuel's second turnover of the day.
In the final frame the Jaguars tied it up on a catch and run by Marcedes Lewis, but Buffalo immediately responded with an 80-yard drive that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown pass to Frank Summers. After the touchdown, Jacksonville chewed up nearly half a quarter of clock with a very long drive. 3rd and goal from the Bills 5 yard line, Stephon Gilmore picked off Henne in the endzone with 3:15 left in the game to help seal the victory.
Buffalo is now 5-9, they'll play their final home game of the season against the Dolphins on Sunday.
