Bulls set to take on San Diego State

The 2013 Idaho Potato Bowl looks to be an interesting matchup for the Buffalo football team and one that many should keep their eye on this upcoming Saturday.

Despite a disappointing loss to Bowling Green (10-3, 7-1 Mid-American Conference) that diminished the chance of a shot at the MAC championship, the Bulls (8-4, 6-2 MAC)  have a shot a finishing their 2013 season on a high note as they travel to Boise, Idaho to take on San Diego State (7-5, 6-2 MW) of the Mountain West conference.

Last time the Bulls went bowling:

In 2009, the Buffalo Bulls took on the UConn Huskies in the International Bowl at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The Bulls were unable to hold off the high-powered rushing attack of UConn running back Donald Brown as he would carry the ball 29 times for 261 yards and a touchdown, as they would go on to lose 38-20.

Key Matchup: Buffalo Defense vs. San Diego State’s offense

Behind quarterback Quinn Khaler and running back Adam Muema, the Aztecs have a pretty well-balanced offense.

Kahler finished the season with 2.796 yards passing to go along with 17 touchdowns while Muema led the rushing attack with 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns.

But what makes this matchup so interesting is the aggressiveness of the Buffalo defense led by senior linebacker Khalil Mack.

The Bulls ranked No.2 in the MAC in total defense allowing just 376.3 total yards per game and 32 touchdowns.

Mack capped off his senior campaign with 94 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss and three interceptions.

Look for the Buffalo defense to give its offense great field position throughout the game and force a couple turnovers.

 He said it:

“If the game is worth playing, it’s worth winning. Our mindset is certainly to prepare the right way as we have all year to give us a chance. There are a lot of players eager to complete the opportunity that we set forth in this program.” – Bulls’ head coach Jeff Quinn on the upcoming bowl game against San Diego State.

Prediction:
The Buffalo defense will be too much for the San Diego State offense to handle as they will force a couple turnovers. Look for Mack to have big game at linebacker and help cement himself among the best pass rushers that the upcoming NFL draft has to offer this April.

Buffalo—28

San Diego State- 17

Kick-off is set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN
