Game Wrap: Sabres @ Bruins

The Bruins scored three unanswered goals Saturday night at the TD Garden, as the Buffalo Sabres failed to sweep the home and home series in a 4-1 to Boston.

The Sabres got off to a somewhat slow start in first period before Reilly Smith put Boston on the board about halfway through the opening frame. Despite being outshot 14-8 in the first, Buffalo managed to tie it up with a minute left as Zemgus Girgensons netted his 4th goal of the season on another outstanding effort, but the tie wouldn’t last long.

Less than two minutes into the second period, Jerome Iginla fed David Krejci for another Boston goal, and the Sabres found themselves trailing by one. No scoring for the remainder of the frame, as Buffalo at one point had a 5-on-3 for nearly two minutes, but they couldn’t get anything going. Tyler Myers, however, had enough of Patrice Bergeron slashing his legs in the Buffalo zone, as he and Bergeron went at it. No clear winner there, but Myers did land a couple right hands on the veteran.

It turned out that the third period didn’t even need to be played, as Milan Lucic provided insurance for the Bruins early in the third, and the Sabres couldn’t respond as an empty-netter by Reilly Smith provided Boston with a 4-1 Boston victory.

Buffalo now 9-24-3, they’ll host Phoenix on Monday at 7. Pregame coverage starts at 6 with Brian Koziol on WGR.
