Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- When the game started between the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins on Sunday, there was one notable absence along the defensive line. Former third overall pick and starting defensive lineman Marcell Dareus was merely standing on the sideline with his helmet off throughout the first 15 minutes of action.
After the game head coach Doug Marrone was vague about the reasoning, saying that Dareus broke an unspecified team rule. The defensive lineman wouldn't divulge the reasoning behind the temporary benching either.
According to a league source, the Bills elected to bench Dareus for tardiness to team meetings throughout the year. The source described the defender as being "habitually late," and that the benching falls right in line with the overall program to have the players holding more accountability for their actions.
Dareus entered the game as soon as it reached the second quarter.
