John Scott Suspended Seven Games

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The NHL has suspended Sabre John Scott for seven games for his hit on Loui Eriksson during last Wednesday's game against Boston.

"After Eriksson has dumped the puck, Scott cuts across Eriksson and delivers a shoulder to Eriksson's head, making it the key point of contact, and an illegal hit to the head," says NHL Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan.

Shanahan says Eriksson does not change his body position, so the onus is on Scott to maintain legal contact. "It's also important to note Scott has 217 hits, and while he has not been issued supplemental discipline for any of them, it takes away any argument illegal head contact is inevitable just because he is 6' 8"," explains Shanahan.

Eriksson was injured on the play.
