Bills Open Pre-Season In Indianapolis
Indianapolis, IN (WBEN) The Buffalo Bills have a new front office, a new coach, a new quarterback and plenty of youngsters on the roster. Today, the bulk of their fans will get a chance to see it all in display as the team opens the pre-season against the Indianapolis Colts.
The changes began in January when the team promoted Russ Brandon to President and CEO who then hired Doug Marrone as the new coach and also promoted Doug Whaley to general manager.
In the NFL Draft, the team selected Florida State quarterback, E.J. Manuel with the 16th overall selection which gave fans hope that the Bills have finally found their new 'franchise' signal caller. Manuel will start today's game and get plenty of work as fellow quarterback, Kevin Kolb will dress as the third quarterback after suffering a knee injury last week, then missing practice time due to a death in his family. Jeff Tuel will see action after Manuel gets his reps in the game.
The team will also get a lengthy look at their young receiving corps that boasts only one veteran, Stevie Johnson, with more than one year of NFL experience. Johnson will not play in today's game as he recovers from a strained hamstring.
The defense will also have a new look with plenty of youth and a new coordinator, Mike Pettine who brings an aggressive, attacking style defense. Kickoff is set for 1:30 at Lucas Oil Stadium and you can hear live play by play on our sister station, WGR SprtsRadio 550.
