Sabres to Buy Out Nathan Gerbe

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Sabres have waived Nathan Gerbe with the intention of buying him out.

Gerbe will be "bought out" by the team if he clears waivers.

The buy out would remove Gerbe's 1.45 million dollar salary cap hit off of their books completely, but the Sabres will still have to pay Gerbe over 300 thousand dollars each of the next two years.

Drafted in 2005, Gerbe joined the roster in 2008, scoring a total of 29 goals and 72 points during his five seasons.

On January 21, 2011, he scored two goals in five seconds against the New York Islanders, setting a franchise record for the fastest two goals by one player.

On June 29, 2011, Gerbe re-signed with the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-year deal worth $1.42 million per season.
